Ava is the brainchild of Carlos Hernandez, a native of Brooklyn, New York. Carlos plays all the instruments on this album, including keyboards, guitars, bass, drums, synthesizers, trumpets, and the occasional cello-bowed guitar. The vocals of Dianna Ng are featured on three of the tracks.
As far as influences go, people say this cd sounds like Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, and even the Deftones at some points. Carlos admits to loving all of these bands.
Carlos, age 18, has taken piano lessons since age five, started classically composing at age eight, and taught himself guitar and drums at age 16. For one of his classical compositions, he won first place in the esteemed Bertelsmann young composers competition. His work was also featured on NPR.
Taking a break from classical music, he started recording The Child In The Sky in summer 2002 and finished in August 2003, after a year of being holed up in his bedroom with a microphone. Though the album is a solo effort, Carlos has recently recruited friends Miky Van Patiusoog on bass and Ari Zeiguer on drums. Ava expects to begin to play live shows, including songs from the cd as well as new songs and covers, as soon as late 2003.

awesome

This was one of the last records I received in 2003
and it really made the year for me. The Child in The
Sky is one of those records you simply can't just
put on as background music, it completely captures
you within each track. What I personally love about
this album is that no two tracks feel the same, they
can generate different memories each time, and thats
whats important. Ava have produced a cd of new
memories. Most brilliant.

pretty solid, but you need better vocals
author: an0nym0us
The music is very solid, but the songs need better vocals laid out over the background, because thats where its lacking the most. If this band got a good singer who was really into this genre of music, this band could go to another level, but right now its held back from its full promise by the level of singing.
