Ava's voice is gorgeous, strong, and deeply expressive. She gives each tune her intelligent and committed interpretation, whether it's to give in to the fun, the seduction, or the anger that the song demands.
You'll hear "Pleasant Street" by Tim Buckley, with its cryptic chorus, "Hey Baby" by Derek St. Holmes that pulses with sexual energy, the tune "Yas Yas Yas" with its great syncopation and alliteration, and Meg Keene's beautiful paean to her mother, "Hymn to Her". Ava's poignant version of Leadbelly's "In the Pines" draws out all the drama while her version of his "When I Was a Cowboy" brings out all the fun.
The accompaniment of the band, American Anthem, underscores, augments, and completes this incredibly moving album!
Let it wash over you.
This little album is a gem!
Comments:
It's become one of my favorites; so glad I clicked on it by chance one day. GREAT band, nice production. Ava's versions of Tim Bucley's "Pleasant Street" and Joan Osborne's "Crazy Baby" surpass the originals, and that's sayin' a lot!

This is an amazing CD. Finally, someone has recorded a unique, easy-listening album. Ava has definitely created a winner with "never-was" and it is the music that causes everyone in my car to ask, "Who IS that??"

Terrific songs, terrific voice, lots of emotional power
author: Bert Woodruff
Ava Wynne demonstrates her flexible, wonderful voice in this CD. Her songs range from the country western where her voice is mellow with a little "country break" now and then, to the power of Joan Osborne's "Crazy Baby" and Dylan's "Hard Rain." AND the band's good too!
