Album Notes

A tasteful and loving tribute to Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet - the guys that wrote and played all of that cool music used in the Kids in the Hall TV series. They actually recorded three full albums and a ton of singles and compilation tracks. Really!

This is a very cool tribute featuring 22 of the top surf and instrumental combos from the U.S. and, of course, Canada including The Deoras (featuring Mike Palm of Agent Orange), The Sadies, The Insect Surfers, The Surfdusters, and Squid Vicious.

Here's the liner notes from the CD.

Why Shadowy Men? What's the deal? Like a lot of fans outside of Toronto, my first exposure was through The Kids In The Hall television series. I enjoyed the show, but I just couldn't get the theme song and the link music out of my head. I finally found a store locally that had a Shadowy Men CD (specifically DIM THE LIGHTS, CHILL THE HAM), so I snatched it up. Part of me was worried that the music on the show wasn't their "real" sound. Once "Reid's Situation" started up, I couldn't help but smile. There was that *SOUND*. Catchy, melodic, but with a sense of humor thrown in. I was hooked right off. Since then, I've found other bands that remind me of the Men, but no one else seems to have quite the same formula.

I love an obscure concept, especially when it comes with a tremolo bar.
