Album Notes

My name is Judith Avers. I live in West Virginia but was born in Liberal, Kansas. I got here by way of Nebraska and Colorado.

I've been playing music and making records for over 13 years. In that time, I have had many other jobs - some respectable, some not - but none that I loved as much as singing and writing songs.

Mountain and Shore is the most meaningful thing I have done (so far). Anand Nayak produced it and many talented musicians performed on it. We recorded in the wee hours of the morning and the darkest hours of the night with our egos sleeping and our intentions pure. It is the product of my most sincere work.

Its ingredients include the mountains of West Virginia, vivid books I've read, an assortment of music I've listened to, gorgeous films I've watched, fascinating people in and around my life, love I've let go and love I've managed (somehow) to hold onto.

Thank you, truly, for listening.

Much love,
Judith

"Armed with just an acoustic guitar and a gorgeous voice that alternately recalls Gillian Welch, Rosie Thomas and Paula Cole, singer/songwriter Judith Avers could literally sing the classified ads and still be positively riveting. Fortunately, that won't be necessary: Avers is equally adept and compelling as a storyteller, crafting heartrending tales steeped in both hopefulness and despair."

-Westword Magazine, Denver's Premier Music Mag

"It is no wonder the native Kansan (West Virginia transplant) has developed a name for herself" - Performer Mag

"The songs were like grandma's patchwork and by the end, she had sewn together a blanket and wrapped me in it. Soft and melodic folk lullabies folded me into the warmth of spring and left me with creases in time as she sang in one of her songs, "I would wear you if I could." A reflection of my own life as I heard her stories and my own voice begging for me to recall! recall! all that brought me to this moment. Judith Avers- tell me your story."

Judith has such a talent for putting lyrics together that touch the heart and soul. Her stories evoke vivid pictures and emotions. The fact that she has such a lovely and soothing voice eases us through the tragic emotions and makes the loving ones sweeter. Judith's melodies can be haunting at times; and always difficult to forget! The instrumental and vocal accompaniments were equally impressive. Beautifully produced from start to finish. Compelling image in the cover as well. Can you tell I love this CD?

My title rings true. This is a work of art. Very professional, very personal. There is a song for each mood, and yet it is comfortable to listen to the entire album at once as an experience. All the songs are crafted, not just sung. This is beautiful. Thank you for your music, Judith.

This is my new favorite CD. Judith is a gifted songwriter with a gorgeous voice. Her vocals have a pure heartfelt quality that draws you into each song. Her lyrics are poetic and engaging and the melodies and moods of the different songs make this CD quite a treat. My personal favorites are Raining, Oh May and Fireflies.
