Album Notes

The Boston-based group Babaloo has been performing its unique brand of International dance-party music since 1994. Babaloo originated in Jamaica Plain, a multi-cultural neighborhood in Boston, where the music of local punk rock bands mix with the sounds of salsa and merengue emanating from car stereos, front stoops, and bodega markets. Thus spawned the inspiration for Babaloo. Their music is rooted in Latin and Afro-Caribbean styles, such as mambo, cha cha cha, samba, reggae and ska. Combined with the on-stage energy and presence of a punk band, Babaloo makes music that is truly infectious and without a doubt one of a kind. Babaloo is:

B, aka El Presidente Al Dente '" Lead vocals and percussion
JESSE, aka Slim “Family Man” Goodbody '" Bass Guitar
MIKE, aka Captain Kickass '" Guitars and Vocals
WASH, aka Washtub, aka Shubs '" Drumset, Timbales, and Vocals
NED, aka Nova '" Congas, Percussion, and Vocals
MAX, aka Max Factoria - Trumpet and Percussion
DAVEED, aka John Lebanon - Trumpet and Percussion

This CD is a further extension of Babaloo's international explorations, and the party is still crackin'. (scuse the pun). They do reprise a song or two from former CD's, which is fine cause I like em all. Lots of energy; tight, tight, tight; lyrical; infectious; with a skewed punk wit in the words. There's much sweetness in their musicality, and much silliness, too. Can't wait to see them live again!

As the first CD from this group that this reviewer has listened to, this one is a winner. Can't wait to hear more from this band. Hip, cool and with a killer beat these guys really know how to rock. Now I have to catch them live.

Thanks to CD Baby for getting me yet another "not quite mainstream" CD. These guys usually have anything I'm looking for no matter how Indie they may be. Thanks Baby!
