Bacchus
The Roman god of wine and intoxication, equated with the Greek Dionysus. His festival was celebrated on March 16
and 17. The Bacchanalia, orgies in honor of Dionysus,
were introduced in Rome around 200 BCE. These infamous celebrations, notorious for their sexual and criminal character, got so out of hand that they were forbidden
by the Roman Senate in 186 BCE. Bacchus is also
identified with the old-Italian god Liber.

In the seventies, Eric Turner and Charlie Souza from the Tropics, grew to a more progressive form of rock music,
and formed thier own rock group, BACCHUS. Along with Tampa's own exceptional and funky drummer, Bill Peterson. Bill, with his driving rythm, Eric, with his soaring lead guitar and Charlie with his expressive Bass, went into the recording studio, where they made thier own brand of music! After releasing 3 singles, BACCHUS was the opening act on concerts featuring GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, FREE, LYNNRD SKYNNRD, BB KING, CACTUS, The OUTLAWS, REDBONE, EDGAR WINTER, and TED NUGENT. BACCHUS became a three piece
power trio to be reckoned with and were soon asked to
open a concert with MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA. Including an appearance at the Atlanta Pop Festival, Eric Turner, Charlie Souza, and Bill Peterson began to achieve great success in the Southeast and Midwest as BACCHUS And now
you can sample some of their musical achievements right here at CDBaby!

This music was very good for it's day and still stands up when I hear it now.

The music of Bacchus consisted of well written songs and they still stand up when I hear them today. Being a musician myself I am very picky about what I like but this CD happens to be the style that I like. It would be refreshing if there was a come back of this kind of music to go along with what's on the radio these days.
