Album Notes
The Backtrack Blues Band has been performing for decades, and this live CD and concert DVD captures the band at it's very best. The strong, amplified harmonica, and blistering slide guitar solos, together with great vocals, make this two disc package a "must buy" for blues and blues rock fans. The state of the art recording still retains the authentic , raw edge so essential to the best blues sounds of the past. While the project contains all original songs, the band has lived and studied the blues for years, and the phrasings of Little Walter, Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy, and Duane Allman are evident throughout .
This Florida-based band was formed in 1980 and has been performing continuously thereafter, making Backtrack one of the longest- running blues bands around. The group's devotion to writing original music has distinguished it from many other blues bands and has landed it opportunities to appear in concert with some of the best in the business. Backtrack has opened shows for Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Gregg Allman, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, John Lee Hooker, Koko Taylor, George Thorogood, and many other blues masters. The band is grateful for these opportunities and hopes that this live recording demonstrates a mature blues band at the top of it's game!
On Saturday, November 19, 2011, the Backtrack Blues Band performed a show of its original blues at the historic Palladium Theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida. The concert was captured live and was filmed in real time, all pure blues- no overdubs or edits. It's a performance of honest music, recorded just as it was played, without any technological gimmicks.
We hope you'll enjoy the show, play it loud, and feel the energy and integrity of the Backtrack Blues Band!!! Get ready for a good time, house-rocking' blues party in your town soon !!!

You Will Definitely Need Room for Dancing!
The Tampa Bay area is blessed with a multitude of vastly talented artists and bands, but few have played together for as long as Backtrack Blues Band. After decades together this band is so tight they squeak when they walk on stage! Their taut sound was in full bloom for the live recording of Backtrack’s opening set at the Tribute to Little Walter in St. Petersburg’s Palladium Theater. Captured Alive presents that performance on CD and DVD just as it was that night… no second takes, over dubs or edits.

The set of all original tunes opens with “You’ll Come Back Someday” displaying the Chicago Blues inspired groove that drives the band. Front man Sonny Charles blows a mean harp and belts out strong, clear vocals in his distinctive fashion throughout the disc. Charles also gets writing credit for every song but one. “Like It or Not” follows in a smokin’ shuffle featuring amazing slide guitar from Spider Ingram to complement Sonny’s Little Walter harmonica style. More of the same fuels the cookin’ “Let’s Ride Baby” which makes you want to slide the disc in your car’s player and hit the open road. “I Make My Home in Florida” is a tribute to the Sunshine State but it sounds like Muddy Waters in his Chicago heyday. Ingram struts his stuff with some serious string bending interwoven with Sonny’s fiery Mississippi sax on “Don’t Throw Our Love Away” while walking bass lines from Eddie St. Clair showcase the rock-solid rhythm section including Joe Bencomo on drums and Little Johnny Walter on rhythm guitar. Spider then proves he is more than a guitar wizard as he takes over lead vocals for his own composition, “You Move Too Slow.” Ingram shows off impressive pipes while he and Sonny swap out rocking solos. But these guys may have saved the best for last. If you haven’t already done it, you had best push the furniture back and roll up the rug before you play “Boogie Shack.” You will definitely need room for dancing to this high octane burner! Captured Alive is indeed a masterpiece for Backtrack Blues Band. Get it soon!

Easty to Find a Spot for this One on My Playlist!
The Backtrack Blues Band has been performing their original blues for over 30 years, and this new live release is the perfect showcase for harp man and lead vocalist Sonny Charles and lead guitarist Spider Ingram who can go from blistering to soulful in the course of a single song. The band plays all original material, but the songs are rooted firmly in the tradition of the great Chicago bands of the 1950s. This is blues played with real passion by musicians who understand and appreciate the masters while creating their own unique sound. I love “Boogie Shack” as do my listeners, but I keep coming back to the slow blues, “I Make My Home in Florida.” You can almost feel the heat!
