Album Notes

Bacon Fat needs no introduction. Founded in 2000 this three-piece unit from the Brussels area proved more than enough they are one of the most remarkable and most rumoured acts in the Lowlands. It is one of the rare bands who manages to drive the audience over the top with mainly original songs.
Their three demo-efforts already proved they are not just a regular rock-band. Meanwhile they brewed a serious list of “classics” as there are “Hangin’ Around”, “Nasty Boy”, “Bad Ass Lowdown & Dirty Blues”, “Plain Sustain”, “Pretty Little Thang” and the more recent party-killers “Kick The Boogieman”, “Strip Down” en “Red Pussycat”. With the exception of “Pretty Little Thang” all these songs are included in the long-awaited debut-album “Boogielicious Baby” on the Grease it up Music label (check out on WWW.GREASEITUPMUSIC.EU). Everywhere the crowds go mad for the unique style of the boys whom one might possibly describe as an orgy between ZZ Top, Hendrix, Ten Years After, Andre Williams, Masters of Reality and Five Horse Johnson. However, it is impossible to label the band. Bacon Fat is Bacon Fat and it only sounds like – indeed – Bacon Fat.
It is a mixture of blues, rock, trash and boogie with some psychedelic and jazzy flavours added. Along with the self-willed characters of the three band-members this is a band who doesn’t fit any locker. There is nothing or no-one sounding like nor resembling to Bacon Fat and exactly this is the strength of the band. Anyone who wants to have the time of his life with tunes like “Plain Sustain” and “Strip Down” can only do this during a Bacon Fat-show and once you’ve tasted it you want more, loads more. Those who saw it will have known…

REVIEWS

loaded with energy, kick ass from the very first second

Here we are again! Bacon Fat, rockin’ and kickin’ ass. The band exists for some years now and they keep up the progression in every way. A very functional and original website, gigs all over the Benelux and some new songs. The disc is loaded with energy. “Rub Top Shuffle” has this smooth drive with some tight riffs by the guitarplayer. On and off the riffs are combined with the bass-guitar licks while the drums keep on pumping like hell. Nothing wrong with that. Though it’s remarkable to me that the second guitarsolo is much more chaotic than the first one which is really dosed better. Clearly my favorite song is “Strip Down”. This song has an excellent variation in rhythm and a chorus which’ll hunt your mind for a long time after listening to it. “Red Pussycat” is a fast song and takes you by the throat from the first beat. It rocks like nothing else and it’s really impossible not to move on this one. Another straight in your face song is “Motorcycle Hotel”. An up-tempo rocker with a good vocal melody and a clear song-structure. Overall I have some trouble with the voice. Further on I think the songs are too long. If you want to keep the attention of the listener I think you should bring the lenght of the vocal-lines and the guitar-solo’s a little closer to each other. The guitar-violence is too much for me. But maybe one thing and another fits the rough image of the Bacon Fat concept. Some 6 songs I’ve met before, in any form or performance, on several demo’s. In my opinion those three gentlemen are perfectly capable of releasing a full-cd with twelve new original compositions. Then we’ll have to wait a little longer. To me this band is not a bluesband. I’m sure that on heavy rock-festivals Bacon Fat will kick ass from the very first second on!
