In Belfast summer of 2002, guitarist Graeme Heyburn and vocalist Tom Clarke originally conceived ‘Bad Boat’. Drummer Stephen Hobson joined and brought along bassist Niall Ward in 2003 and having finally found a solid line-up, the band began rehearsing and writing a set of instant classic heavy rock songs culminating in their debut performance to an unwitting though appreciative audience at RockD, Belfast in August of 2003.
DJ with techno pioneers ‘Slam Bigots’ John Gallagher was inspired to pick up the guitar again and joined after witnessing their first gig. The line-up was now set and they recorded their first demo 'Oblivion Switch', in November 2003 in Enniskillen (Niall's hometown). This demo sold out quickly at the many shows that followed and Bad Boat started to create a good buzz locally.
In 2004 another demo 'Breathing Space' was recorded at FeRoX Industries in Belfast. Many demos were sent out for review around the world. This one gained great reviews and garnered 'Demo of the Month' in 'Metal Hammer' magazine.
John left in November 2005 and the band have remained a four piece to record their debut album ‘Blues Gone Black’. The album includes some re-recorded favourites from the demos and a great bunch of new songs in the same classic balls to the wall style that has made them one of Northern Ireland’s most original and favourite live bands.
