Album Notes

Bag of Toys is a San Francisco-based quartet creating the best new acoustic surf rock in Northern California. Throughout the last several years, the group has entertained the masses at numerous venues around both Northern and Southern California with a great collection of refreshingly original music which is often compared to artists such as Jack Johnson and Sublime.

Bag of Toys is also extremely proud to announce the release of their debut CD entitled "Nooner". Mastered by Dave Collins, who has worked on albums by artists such as Jack Johnson and Ben Harper, the disc features 12 tracks that include laid-back guitar, head-bobbin' grooves, and melodies so catchy that you're guaranteed to be singing along in the shower, car, or any other place you prefer to sing aloud.

The foundation of Bag of Toys started when Robert Tait began writing songs at the age of 14. The Pacific Ocean lured Robert out to San Francisco and, in 2003, he found support in the melodic guitar playing of Steve Cowgill. Seeking to fill out the sound, the duo perused the internet for a rhythm section and, after too many strange audition experiences, finally found a perfect fit with Joe Schewe holding a bass and Robert Stadler behind a drum set. The quartet then spent the early part of 2004 in Robert Tait’s apartment molding his creations into the infectious sound that has become Bag of Toys.

Beginning with a few appearances at a small open-mic showcase, the group has quickly risen up the venue circuit of San Francisco and has been entertaining the masses in regular rotation at larger clubs such as the popular Red Devil Lounge. In late 2005, Bag of Toys stepped into the studio and recorded their 12-song debut CD entitled “Nooner”. After the CD release, the band will continue to spread the word by performing live on the West Coast and beyond while writing more original material that is the musical equivalent of that feeling you get right after you sneeze.

Brilliant !

I was blown away when i first heard the boys music on myspace & i've never looked back. You just can't keep still when you listen to their music. Robert & the guys have this talent/sound that noone can even begin to compare to. They take you into their world and you find yourself constantly singing their songs throughout your day :) Many a time have i just went for a drive, windows down & "nooner" blasting as loud as i can & having a ball. It makes me feel like i'm in California, right there watching them perform. My favs are "surf song" and "share" & will definitely be buying "afternooner". I havent had the treat of seeing them perform live but i have become friends with Robert through myspace. He's a dear man, hilarious as ever & loves his fans dearly....very grounded. Just by watching their video performances makes me anxious to finally see them sing in person one day ....priceless. A must buy for someone who loves an awesome beat & brilliant lyrics. They are such a tight band and you can really tell they love what they're doing, its a part of them and i know they will be around for a long, long time connecting so many people who are lucky enough to discover them and/or befriend them. Best purchase i've made in a long time....enjoy. xoxoxo

The Cliches Are Right!
author: James Bradley
Much as I'd love to say this album has been the perfect comanion to sunny days sat at the beach or surfing some waves, unfortunately I was born in England, and have no money to escape yet. But even as I laze around with the cool breeze threatening to make tis summer as unceremonious as the last, this album brings a bit of sunshine into my ears. A little bit of that Californian spirit that says 'it's okay, just relax and enjoy life' floats fom the CD player, and it doesn't take boards, waves, sand and sun to enjoy life. It doesn't even take a Bag of Toys CD, but it sure as heck helps. Granted, it isn't all waves and relaxation, sometimes the songs are tinged with little bits of surf-community drama, or stabs of philosophical musings that really add a much deeper character to the album, but even these maintain an air of not-the-end-of-the-world optimism. Yes, even the song about death. Why these tunes aren't regularly blasted through mainstream stations even here in the U.K. is a mystery. I suppose in a way, it's a good thing. Bag of Toys are all about the music, and it really does show. The cliches are right - this album may well be the thing to bring a little more sunshine into your summer, whether the sky contributess or not.
