Biography

Described as being one of the most dynamic, soulful, entertaining vocalists on the jazz scene today, Donna Bailey creates a sophisticated, “coolness” to jazz standards, as well as with her own compositions. Her vocal interpretations, along with her captivating personality, have caused audiences to call her absolutely “spell-bounding”.

Donna's national appearances include performances in theaters, jazz venues, jazz festivals, private and corporate events. She offers Master Classes in A Blueprint for a Performance and Making the Commitment….to Music!

Television appearances include The Joe Franklin Show, The Nancy Gold Show, Pittsburgh's WQED TV, and is the Power Kard voice for the Pittsburgh Symphony. She has appeared numerous films industrial training
Films and television commercials, including an NFL film with Jerome Bettis for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Donna was nominated for an ASCAP award for writing Charlie's Place, for an off-broadway production of Harvey, when she played the lead female role as Veta Louise, who was Elwood P. Dowd’s sister.

Her composition "Gifts From the Heart", won recognition from the Volunteers of America Group. Donna wrote the song for the dedication ceremony for Princeton Community Hospital’s newly built Chapel, that was built from funds raised by their dedicated volunteers and community businesses.

After years of entertaining, Donna describes being invited to perform for the legendary Dave Brubeck, in honor of his 86th birthday at The Manchester Craftsman’s Guild, as one of the most exciting highlights of her entertaining career.

Donna’s 2005 CD, “BECOMING…Ballads, Bosssa, Blues and Beyond” that includes two of her original compositions (My Favorite Thing & I Hope You Know) and fun, new “twists” to several standards, including Willie Nelson’s “Crazy” and Peggy Lee’s “Fever”. It's Always 4 A.M. was included on the CD after working with Ron Anthony, the guitarist for Frank Sinatra for ten years, who co-wrote the tune with Sammy Cahn. Donna’s rhythm section includes Jason Hollar on bass, Mason Embry on piano and Thomas Wendt on drums.
Jay Dudt, four time Grammy winner, of Audible Images, mixed and mastered this CD.

After the success of this release, the DBS Jazz team went to work planning her latest project. It would include world-class musicians that would blend with Donna’s music style, vocals and personality.
