This album is set up so that if you are just in the mood to hear more mellow heartfelt songs you can start with cut #10. The first 6 songs are acoustic blues. This album came about as a nice surprise for me. While I was visiting my brother, Phil, on a visit to Texas in October 2007, I played him a couple of my new songs including Only Time. My brother, luckily understood my sense of humor that this blues song represents and offered to record some of my new songs on his Yamaha mini disc recorder and do the photography work for the album...plus he happened to know Todd Blalock, a wonderful guitar player there in Dallas, who is playing on cuts 1-7.
I always enjoy it when things flow easily like this recording did. It felt like playing music with a couple of people in your living room.
I'm adding some information about some of the songs since listening on the internet isn't the same as hearing someone live...you miss some of the stories.
The song This Miracle- I wrote summer of 2005 while housesitting at my friend Paul's house in Dunsmuir, CA. Everything was flowing well then and this song started coming out and I had to run grab the guitar to catch it in time. (Thanks, Paul for the extra time I had there to let the songs come out.)
Waiting to be Brave- I wrote this while up at Castle Lake outside of Mt. Shasta. I often felt inspired to write there as it is one of my favorite places to be.
The songs Coming Home to you and Sista done ya wrong were written in March of 2006 shortly after moving to Orcas Island in Washington state. I remember early in the day wondering where the songs were about relationship struggles with family as there were so many songs about love relationships. Later that day the Sista song was written.
Love ship going down- This song came into my head as I was walking down the street on my way to the library in Ashland, Oregon.
Valentine's Day at the Laundromat- I wrote the words to this song in Jackson, WY then several years later I was looking at it and added music to it.
If you'd like to check out my previous CD's, three of them
are available on CD BABY, including the next most recent CD, Everything it Wants, with John Hagen from Lyle Lovett Band on cello, Rich Brotherton from Robert Earl Keen band on guitar and Paul Pearcy who has played with so many great artists including The Dixie Chicks on their Home album.
