Land-O-Plenty

Having listened to Well Balanced Meal repeatedly a few summers ago, I was excited to have some new Balance material. And once again he does not disappoint. I would say the only difference is that the overall sound is not as dark or effected as the first CD (with maybe the exception of 1971 and NVN,Inc.)That said, this is a great set of tracks with a very cinematic feel, sometimes grand and sometimes groovin'. Great sample break-downs, hauntingly catchy robo-vocalz (Remote Host,Robot Wife), smooth transitions in the middle of tracks to other tempos or 2nd melodies(Stick to the Plan,Charanga)and some straight-up, Mr.Scruff type get-up-to-get-down tracks to keep the house shakin(Ham Sandwich,Venus Spy Trap) -- >> Well werth every penny. -[MAX]-

This latest effort from balanceman rivals, if not eclipses his previous well balanced effort. I can't seem to stop the listening. Even when I'm in more of a hall & oats or dionne warwick kind of mood, the cd follows me arround begging for more ear time. Like a junky, I always seem to give in.
Recently, the cd has taken up residence in my car stereo and won't leave. That was weeks ago! I fear I become a balance-slave. The young son now becomes disturbed as well, as he has loaded my copy onto his i-pod.
Get ahold of this album, especially if you're a sound nerd like this balance-guy no doubt is.

I was first intigued by the cover art, seeming like a strange cross between beetlejuice and the teletubbies, which drew me in. Once I popped the CD in my system and laid back, I was in for a pleasant journey of genre bending electronica, instumental hip-hop and electro lounge. It sounds at once exotic and familiar, smooth downtempo with an irresistable dance groove, well crafted from start to finish. Every track shines with its own unique character, and makes a cohesive album that takes you on a journey. Well Balanced Meal proves that Oakland based producer Jeremy Goody is at the forefront of a new sound not yet defined, but sure to keep you bobbing your head and reaching for the rewind button. A must have for any discriminating collector!
