Balla eventually formed his own group, Groupe Spirit, Although the menbers have changed throughout the years, the mission has remained the same, fusing traditional Mande and Western music creating high enegy,intelligent music. Groupe Spirit has performed all over the Country and plays regularly in Boston and New york Canada City. They perform an electric blend of Africa lLatin, Funk,Reggae and Blues that can electrify any club.
When not performing with Groupe Spirit, Balla has toured all over the world with jazz bassit Ben A llison and his group Peace Pip
