Ride That Rocket is the debut release of the California based Ballistic Cats.
Produced by Tony Balbinot of the Cadillac Angels (www.cadillacangels.com) and released by Cracked Piston Recordings (www.crackedpistonrecordsing.com),
it is an eclectic collection of Americana tunes that blends early rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, and swing in a clever and original way. In fact, listening to this record is like taking a tour of some of the best early American styles. The title track is a western swing song, but other cuts range from a sexy blues tune to a Booker-T style instrumental. There is even a live cover of Link Wray’s Jack The Ripper.
Singer Lissy Abraham fronts the Ballistic Cats with inspired vocals that range easily from jazzy sultriness to the teasing hillbilly sexiness of Lorrie Collins. On this record, she sings about love and the loss of it - standard fare for this kind of music, but Lissy’s lyrics are unusual and surprising. Her singing is complemented by guitarist Matthew White with a style that is at once primitive and schooled. Everything is tied together with a solid, high energy groove supplied by the Cat’s rhythm section featuring Chris White on drums.
