Album Notes

Bang Bang Eche formed the day after three of the kids got arrested for LARPing in public. Centered on a mutual love for dinosaurs and cartoons, the trio began practicing across the road from a homeless shelter in big, bad Christchurch, New Zealand.

After playing ten shows to sold-out crowds at local venue "Party Central," Charlie, Josh and James recruited T'Nealle and Zach as security. T'Nealle was chosen due to her notoriety in underground fighting circles and Zach was picked because he was the only person with a driver's license.

Over the next few months Bang Bang Eche began fusing their bouncers into their performances and the band grew to a five piece, with T'Nealle taking up the bass guitar and Zach becoming lead sermonizer. On T'Nealle's insistence that the bang get "more brutal," the band began to write the material that became their self-titled EP.

Their EP was recorded over a week in Christchurch. The first track, “4 To The Floor,” reached number one on New Zealand’s college radio network almost immediately. This was the band's second number one single, with “Nikee” reaching the spot in September 2007. “Time Mismanagement” eventually cracked the top 5.

"We think our EP is best described as a five-track foray into the “Land Before Time” but in this movie the dinosaurs play synths and sixteenth beats, and the T-Rexes are all dancing along and shit,” collectively spoke Bang Bang Eche.

“I can't remember if there are T-Rexes in the “Land Before Time,” but I don't see why there shouldn't be—they are the baddie bad carnivores who get up the in the grill of the herbivores who are the protagonists in the story… or something along the lines of that.

Perhaps it is like Otis and Milo and they are prehistoric cats and dogs who fall in love but get split up due to the war and the Nazi party take them away from each other because, in one song, there is the word 'insipid' and the leader of the party scene decided that wasn't the kind of image that we wanted to be portraying but then it got put on the album because we have communication issues."

Bang Bang Live

I saw these guys in New York last year and they were insane. Halfway through their set, the singer jumped clear across the room onto the bar mid-song, and never missed a beat. These guys are great and they’re totally about to blow up in The States! I can't wait to see them again at SXSW!

Best EP of 2008

My favorite EP of last year. Great garage punk with a fuzz on the bass to really fill up the sound. A lot of great energy by these guys combined with their infectious hooks gets you out of your chair and destroying your living room. Fingers In The Till is a highlight.

Great pop music. Catchy hooks in every song.. with dfa type beats and basslines, but nothing is ever drawn out or dwelt on as long. Saw these guys in New York last year and they were one of the best live acts id seen, finally just got round to getting the EP - cant wait for a full length!
