Album Notes

Ras Amha Baraka was born on January 6, 1962 to Rev.John G. Martin and Ruth Collin-Martin in the Flatlands of Aiken South Carolina.

Like most reggae artist, Baraka's vocal career started in his father's church youth choir.

He fondly remembers reading the hymnals from front to back.

The songs and bible verses he found in the back of the song books were very inspirational to him.

He began singing in reggae bands at age 25.

Baraka's first singing experience was with a local DC act, "Creation Rebel".

Baraka also sang lead vocals for the act "Caravan".

He performed at DC's First Annual Reggae Fest wtih Headliners judy Mowatt and Sister Carol.

He went on to create JahKuumba in 1990.

A few years later, The Backing Musicians formed a side act, "The Soul Defender Posse"; and provided musical accompaniament for International Reggae Artist: The Itals, and others, such as Julian Marley and Peter Broggs.

Jahkuumba, swahili for Jah Creativity, has been the original vision for Ras Amha Baraka's musical message.

He has continued, for the past 20 years, to spread his music and message form the East coast to the West coast. He has performed on many stages, HEADLINING AND OPENING for International Reggae Artist such as Culture, The meditations ,The Mighty diamonds, Eek A Mouse, Shine Head,Ijahman and more.
