Dan Baraszu's CD, "Nightfall" will surely raise some eyebrows as this young gun's guitar and compositional skills are those of an old master. In addition to Dan's guitar wizardry and vision, "Nightfall" features one of the South's most accomplished and versatile rhythm sections: Kenny Banks (piano), Zack Pride (bass), Kinah Boto (drums).
Detroit born Guitarist/Composer Dan Baraszu began playing guitar at age 9. Early in his career, he explored many different styles of music. However, when he first heard the genius of Jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, Dan devoted himself to becoming a die-hard Jazz artist. His major influences include guitarists Joe Pass ,Pat Martino, Pat Metheny and John Scofield as well as other instrumentalists like Bill Evans ,Horace Silver ,John Coltrane ,Sonny Rollins and Charlie Parker .
In addition to listening and transcribing the works of the"masters of the Jazz idiom", Dan has been formally educated in music as well. He received his Bachelors degree from the renowned Berklee College of Music, where he majored in Jazz Composition and Arranging . In addition, Dan also received his Masters degree from the University of Miami with a major in Jazz Pedagogy .
Dan currently resides in the Atlanta area where he leads his own groups and works as a freelance guitarist. Baraszu’s CD is receiving considerable traditional radio airplay on jazz stations across the country and overseas as well as internet radio and satellite, cable and subscription services.

“Tight”
author: Marshall Zucker - Jazz Improv Magazine, Spring 2007 issueI really do appreciate recordings that mean business, and Dan Baraszu’s Nightfall is firmly in that column. The nine selections present variety. There is also an overriding feeling that Baraszu and associates present their music with precision and definition.... Baraszu has presented himself as a technically adept guitarist, who also plays with great feeling.... One word describes the selections and the performances on Dan Baraszu’s album: “tight.”
Baraszu can really play!
author: Brian KellyDaniel Baraszu has everything; taste, timing, jaw dropping technique and a really hip and modern way of phrasing his stuff. His playing represents everything that has come before him and at the same time everything that is happening now. He's a monster!
Chopsmeister!
author: Bill Milkowski - Jazz Times April 2006 issueBerklee grad and Atlanta resident Dan Baraszu is a chopsmeister whose punchy, percussive attack comes out of the George Benson-Pat Martino school of single-note burn. He and his cohorts--pianist Kenny Banks, bassist Zack Pride and drummer Kinah Boto--break out of the gate charging hard on the frantic Latin-flavored opener "April Fools," as Baraszu quickly establishes his take-no-prisoners approach to soloing….Baraszu distinguishes himself as a new guitar talent worth watching on this fine debut.
It's not just interesting. It's beautiful!
author: Larry LovelandDan puts it all together. His sense of melody, rhythm, and harmony, his formal knowledge of music and exceptional guitar technique allow him to invent lines that are not just interesting but beautiful, even at blistering tempos. And he's a great singer, composer, and arranger as well! All tracks are tasty. Solos and support from bass, drums, and piano are excellent. Like I said, Dan puts it all together.
Deeply soulful.
author: Download.com - Editors ReviewBy introducing the cyclical scalesmanship of South Philly living legend Pat Martino to the round tone of gentle master Wes Montgomery, Atlanta's Baraszu tempers post-fusion bop into something deeply soulful. Take him as a sign that contemporary jazz guitarists are learning how to savor tradition without sacrificing their prog yearnings.
Worthy of the title virtuouso!
author: david j.bairdGreat to hear a no-frills,but plenty of thrills mainstream guitarist. Baraszu weaves in and out of licks from the masters Montgomery,Pass - but streams ahead with his own fresh brew. Chordal work is sharp and clear while the notes are struck cleanly and evenly - with heaps of tonal variety, color in attack and rich inventiveness in phrasing. Worthy of the title virtuouso.
Vibrant !
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.comBaraszu's music is jazz-based but spiced up with electronic and funk textures and tones. Dan is a masterful player and surrounds himself with the equally apt Kenny Banks on piano, Zack Pride on bass and Kihah Boto on drums. Nightfall is an eclectic nine-track collection of mostly instrumental songs that span the spectrum from up-tempo to slow and sultry. The music flows smoothly allowing room for innovation yet notes are played with precision. 'April Fools' is exuberant with its strong fluid rhythms dancing with jazzy guitar chords as the piano cleverly prods the pace. 'Into The Blue' is zesty and zippy as the quartet expertly explores the scales during this seven-minute jam. Dan Baraszu and his band are talented and Nightfall is a versatile and vibrant jazz CD!
Innovation and improvisation keep this album fun and exciting
author: Gail Hoffer- Dan Baraszu’s Night Fall is an eclectic assortment of jazz, funk and electronica. Innovation and improvisation keep this album fun and exciting, and not two tracks alike. The songs are all unique and convey a variety of emotions. Some are fast and frisky, others are slow and seductive. The titles of the songs are creative and capture the essence of the songs perfectly. There’s “Inconstant Moon,” a slow track you might hear over a candlelight dinner. “Time Machine” has a sci-fi, futuristic sound. No matter how you are feeling, there’s a song on this album to capture your mood.
