Album Notes

At the age of 16, Barbara Lynn had a #1 R&B hit. Over the next 4 decades Barbara is and remains the predecessor of "guitar girls" worldwide. She had the first all female band well ahead of the Go Go's, Klymaxx and Beyonce's back-up band with the then "Bobbie Lynn & The Idols." She went on to having a successive string of hits and performed on American Bandstand and the Apollo. She toured extensively, to include Tokyo, with the soul performers of that era from Motown to James Brown. She was billed in one concert with Joe Tex in which there was a marquee mix-up naming Loretta Lynn instead of Barbara Lynn. The country crowd still loved her. Her songs have been covered by many including "The Rollingstones."

She has received many accolades and awards. She is known as the "Queen Of Gulf Coast Soul." She is also deemed as a Northern Soul Icon. She was awarded the LifeTime Achievement Award from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation for her "groundbreaking" achievements. She was chronicled in "Rollingstone Magazine" as a designee for an upcoming "legends" tour.

Whether you are a fan of Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Teena Marie, The Indigo Girls or Melissa Etheridge; it was Barbara Lynn who started it all. We endear her as "Rock & Soul's 1st Female Guitarist." The voice is still there and the wailing guitar is definitely there. The "Phoenix" has nothing on Barbara Lynn.
