I write melodic music with a contemporary sound. For the vocal numbers, I've chosen poetry with humor or a message. The instrumental composition which separates the choruses from the vocal solos has two very different movements: Reverie is contemplative; Rondo is lively, with a lyrical section. The vocal music illuminates the poems, and the words are pronounced normally in the performances. My most unusual composition is Joy, Praise, Hope: Psalm/Mantra Music. The idea to combine four Psalms with a Sanskrit mantra came to me out of the blue in the high mountains of California. It sent me to music school, and came to fruition when I was ready, 34 years later. In the interim, I composed many of the other pieces on this CD.
