Quality Music With A Message

Can you say "dynamic soundscapes" or perhaps "timeless hooks". (Barely 2 Much) manages to successfully create the rules instead of following them, the result is Guapolinda, a complex hybrid of roots rock, world music, and blues. The concept is mature and the delivery is calculated, but the end result is deliciously young at heart. The only reason i did not give it 5 stars is because i am saving that for the second release from Barely 2 Much

Hard rock and roll, awesome bass lines, gentle heartfelt guitar, interesting complex beats/drum/percussions, amazing sound effects, beautiful backup singers, nice strings, lyrics that actually MEAN SOMETHING. It is edgy and raw at times and refined and lovely at others. It's the kind of cd you'll listen to forever, picking up different nuances each time. A cd you'll grow into-and grow and learn from. Bravo!

Multi-layered, protest music at its finest !

Barely2Much's music is an imaginative blend of progressive, roots rock and world. The thirteen tracks on this CD are light and energized but dig a little deeper and the songs are bold and serious tackling environmental, political and social issues. Guapolinda writes songs from personal local experiences as well as from a global perspective. His compositions are lush musical landscapes with surprising melodies and sound effects. Track one, 'Magazine Paradise', has a catchy groove combined with harsh commentary on paradise exploited by global tourism. 'Cobano' is a multi-cultural blend of rock and blues. 'Eco Town' has edgy leads and rhythms talking further about the impacts (black water) of tourism on a small village. 'More Michael Moore' has multi-layered instrumentation commending Michael Moore for exposing the government, followed by 'Bushwacker' criticizing America's current leadership. 'Happy Hour' is emotionally stirring in a jazz forum and '400 Billion' is a funky call for peace. 'Guapolinda' is a fusion of club music and rock and tracks 9 and 10 have diverse world tones. The last three songs explore various musical styles ranging from bluegrass to pop but Guapolinda's thorny themes remain a constant. Barely2Much is multi-layered, protest music at its finest!
