After working Beale Street for the summer of 2001, the blues kinda was hanging from my leg.
I'm a long time Memphis artist, -starting The Changin' Tymes in 1966, an electric folk-rock group-, and carrying my love of the 12-string guitar with me as a soloist ever since leaving the band in 1969.( re-issues of the Changin' Tymes' single, Blue Music Box, have been appearing all across the country.)
After releasing two albums and working in other areas of the country, I returned to the delta and built a home and worked the Memphis/North Mississippi area, playing every venue possible for a soloist in a saturated market.
Sometimes that was the sidewalk.
Blues was not my main genre, but working on Beale at the Handy Blues Hall got me more involved with other blues artists, like Don McMinn, Blind Mississippi Morris, Brad Webb, etc., so....one day i was walking through an old neglected cemetary near Highway 3 and Highway 304, thinking and looking at mortared brick grave markers wondering about Robert Johnson.
When I walked out and headed down the road, this song got to buzzing around my head, and being a singer/songwriter that I am, I grabbed it and put it in my bag.
It has a bluesy flavor that wont let go easy, and I hope you check it out, called Who's That Walking?
I usually use a harp on the intro, but on this cd, LONEBYRD, I intro'd with a twelve lick mimicing the harp, because one of my harp reeds had gone out, and I enjoy the twelve sound I've grown up with musically so it fit surprisingly well.
I try to solo with as much up-tempo material as possible, drawing from singer/songwriter types as Dylan/Prine/Sebastian/Crosby/ McGuinn and my originals.
I thank you for listening, and hope you check out my latest entitled Memphis Soloist. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND I WANNA TELL YA ITS APPRECIATED. NEWEST RELEASE SOON IS CLOUD
DANCIN', THIS WEEK OF FEB 2006

New and poetic delights from a Memphis staple
author: Harry Brooks Bryan
It's always a pleasure to hear Bruce Barham. When others give up Bruce is always somewhere playing. The new material in this latest CD offers a mellow and bittersweet Bruce in the 12-strings genre he has designated to his sound. Bruce is always worth a listen but I think this is new ground-or maybe an old road paved-for Bruce. I recommend this CD highly and anticipate more to come from the twelve-string soul of Bruce Barham.
