Album Notes

Mike Barnet is not the usual brand of "singer/songwriter" and his new EP the "Bourgeois Backlash" is a definite departure from the "guy with an acoustic guitar" sound.

Its Eddie Grant (ElectricAvenue), Mos Def, Bad Brains, Massive Attack and Richie Havens all at once but distinctly his own style. Blending elements of break beats, punk, folk and some electronica, Mike is creating a style of music he calls Urban Folk Music.

His songs tackle many different topics and his lyrics
are woven together with such passion its obvious that
he has something to say. Commenting on consumerism,
religion, war and life in general this 6 song EP is
refreshing and engaging.

MIKE BARNETT!!!

Dude....I've been listening to this guy at places in the Fullerton area for the past 3 years or so and I have always loved his music. He has so much passion in it, and I love that he brings up issues of injustices that exist in the world. I'm used to just hearing Mike at Plush or Fierros or something....and he's just solo by himself with no extra electronic stuff to it....but I still love this CD....:)

A new sound from my favorite artist
author: Laura
Overall, Barnet continues to bring to the table new sounds and a strong message. Bourgeois Backlash sounds nothing like Mike's other albums (Art of Drowning; Religion for Robots), so if you're looking for more of what you love of his acoustic/coffehouse sound, you may be disappointed. It's like he took his old sound and went techno.
