Album Notes

LIVE 2005! REDUX - MIKE BARONE BIG BAND
Recorded live on September 25, 2005 at the
Rosalie & Alva Performance Gallery,
San Pedro, California
Rhubarb Recordings #108 - CD release October 6, 2010
NEW! I have decided to “Redux” our “Live 2005!” for several reasons. I can mix and edit much better than five years ago with improved FX. Some of the tracks have been shortened for airplay as they were too long to begin with. I can now include the Bonus Track* Grand Central. The result is a much higher quality recording.
Sixteen-piece big band with featured soloists Ernie Watts, Kim Richmond, Vince Trombetta, Keith Bishop, Jennifer Hall (saxophones). Steve Huffsteter (trumpet). John Proulx (piano). Chris Conner (bass) and leader Mike Barone on (trombone).

Mike Barone, composer, arranger and trombonist wrote over 300 compositions and arrangements for the Tonight Show Band. Mike came to LA in 1959 where he began writing and playing with the bands of Louie Bellson, Gerald Wilson, and Terry Gibbs. In 1962 he recorded with Lalo Schifrin and the Dizzy Gillespie quintet, and later played with them at the Monterey Jazz Festival. His many writing and playing credits include: Quincy Jones, Hank Mancini, John Williams, Bill Conte, Frank Rosolino, Maynard Ferguson, Ernie Watts, Dave Grusin, Phil Collins and Bud Shank. Mike has written for the Academy Awards since 1987 and more recently in 2000, 01, 03 and 05. Mike is actively composing and arranging for the Mike Barone Big Band which rehearses weekly in Hollywood.
