Album Notes

With the album Vuelvo Al Sur, Stephane Spira (piano, France) and José-Luis Barreto (voice, Uruguay) deliver us a surprising Tango’s lesson.

An amazing voice, a piano felted and slicing, and the dramatic tension takes an unexpected turn, subtle symbiosis between Latin passion and European romanticism. We come very close to death, love, hope and exile with the liking of the most beautiful Tangos (Piazzolla, Gardel, Troilo…) reinvented by two virtuosos musicians with classical background.

The arrangements, signed Stephane Spira and matured during years of concerts, mix thus, with intelligence and poetry, sobriety of Lied and contained rage of Tango. One doesn’t come out unscathed from this musical meeting, served by a Fazioli piano with astonishing sonorities. Since almost 20 years, these two musicians are playing together around the globe, but without any recording. So, this is done since July 2006, is exceptional conditions, live, at Studio de Meudon, nearby Paris, France.
