Shaun Barrowes Biography
Shaun grew up in a musical family, performing with his family from the age of three as a singer and instrumentalist. At the age of six, he took to the piano. At 15, his piano teacher encouraged Shaun to experiment with composition. This led to the discovery of his true passion and purpose in life. Shaun cut his first record at the age of 16, selling a few hundred copies to his fellow high school classmates. He then went on to record a series of albums and demo CD’s to develop his musical voice and style as well as establish himself as a professional musician. This journey brought Shaun to Southern California, where he recorded, collaborated and trained with some of the best musicians and music producers in the country; musicians with artist credits such as Madonna, Michelle Branch, Destiny’s Child, Stacie Orrico, Joe Cocker, ZZ Top, No Doubt and many more. During his own development process, Shaun has written and produced songs for other artists signed to various record labels including Sony and Universal Records. During this time, he developed an interest in jazz and the American Songbook, listening to artists such as Nat King Cole, George Gershwin and Frank Sinatra.
Throughout the years, the musical artists who’ve had the biggest influence on Shaun’s career include: Sting, Billy Joel, Elton John, Michael Jackson, George Gershwin, Danny Elfman, John Williams, Thomas Newman, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Cole Porter, the Beatles, Elvis, U2, and many more. With these influences, Shaun Barrowes has fused together a sound that’s very unique and yet very soulful.
Shaun Barrowes has recently released his debut album. In his own words, he explains his intentions behind releasing a religious album to begin his singing career, “As people purchase copies of my mainstream, non-religious music in the future, they’ll be able to look in retrospect on my career and recognize that I’m a devout Christian, and I stand for what I believe. I’m proud of my faith and, though I don’t want to shove my beliefs on others, I would like to simply let them know where I stand.”
Shaun brings a jazz influence to the traditional Christian hymns, while maintaining the reverence that is appropriate for God’s inspirational music. It’s masterfully done, and a necessity in any Christian’s music collection.
