Barry Hertz is a singer/songwriter from Calgary, Alberta, Canada who released his first CD entitled Sure Cure in the fall of 2000.
Hertz's CD includes eleven originals, many of which contain imagery from his boyhood, growing up in the rural Midwest. You Ain't From Dakota, Buffalo, Where the Green Grass Grows, Helldiver, and Three Old Friends, all connect in some way to his prairie upbringing. Another tune, Creation's Dawn, was previously released on a compilation disc, the John Muir Tribute CD(http://www.johnmuir.org/martinez/tribute_cd.html ). Creation's Dawn, along with songs by John Denver, Michael Martin Murphy, Kate Wolf, Dougie MacLean and others comprise a collection of music dedicated to John Muir, founding father of the Sierra Club. Another song, Buffalo, has been included on an Alberta compilation, Stand Your Ground (http://cd.activist.ca/volume1.html ).
Hertz began his musical career at an early age singing in the church choir and began writing songs in his teens when he first picked up a guitar. In the 1980's, he moved to northern Alberta to work as a beekeeper. The long winters were down time for the business and he soon found himself playing solo in the local hotels. It was not until the early 90's that he began writing in earnest. His efforts culminated with the release of Sure Cure.
Barry is currently working on his second CD of originals as well as a traditional CD, " A Cowboy's Prayer", songs from the poems of Badger Clark. Both are due to be released in late 2006 or early 2007.
