The Basics - Grow
author: Gary S
Another example of a fine "easy" rock group. Great sound from these two. Been listening to them since 1993. Worth listening to. Keep the songs coming.

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful - Buy it now!

This album is absolutely fantastic! I have not had the pleasure of listening to new material from Kelly and Wade for a long time, and this is filled with rich sounds and wonderfully poignant lyrics. It has followed me everywhere since I received it a couple of weeks ago... another classic Bassics release...!

Better buy two copies
author: Julie Dawson
I am not a big CD buyer, but it's worth the work to track down the basics' newest release and "grow" again rewards my effort. Consistent with their other releases, the songs on "grow" are catchy, each unique, layered with meaning, and musically rich and complex. I've dreamed of owning a coffeehouse that features the basics' songs as a soundtrack, but for now I'll settle for watching my kids dance around the living room to "change of season" and "know you better" over and over again. I bought two copies, but we may wear out the first before I can give the second as a gift.

Great Songs + Great Production = Great CD
author: dale baker
If you haven't purchased a copy, I can't recommend this new release by "the basics" enough. First of all, I've got to say that I play drums on most of the album, and count Wade and Kelly as some of my dearest friends, so I'm definitely a bit biased. I'm really proud to have played on this record and as you can see, I can't gush enough about their new recording.
I'd say if you are a fan of excellent songwriting, folk-pop music ala Shawn Colvin or Rosanne Cash, and wonderfully nuanced production (ala Malcolm Burn, John Leventhal (sp?), you should check this CD out. Wade Baynham (one half of the duo) did production and mixing duties and played many of the instruments on the CD. He proves that he's not only an excellent musician - able to play for the song - but also capable of creating arrangements that aid and enhance a songs meaning and artistry. His production and mixing skills are some of the best I've seen and heard. Kelly Baynham (Wade's wife and the other half of "the basics") sings and plays guitar and shares writing and singing duties with Wade. Her voice is strong and expressive and delicately reminiscent at times of Emmylou Harris, Sam Philips, and Patty Griffin. These songs are personal and inspiring. The production is definitely modern, but at no time does it distract from the songs/ or the listening experience. This CD is well done and deserving of wider recognition. I hope you get a chance to hear this.
