Album Notes

Sarah Bassingthwaighte

Sarah Bassingthwaighte is an award-winning flutist, composer, and teacher, and has been on the University of Washington faculty since April 2006, and of Seattle University since 2002. She served on the faculty of the Rachmaninov Institute in Tambov, Russia, performing solo recitals and teaching master classes for their Summer Festival, and performed in the 2001 NFA Convention in Dallas.

Bassingthwaighte is a past president of the Seattle Flute Society and served on the programming committee for the National Flute Association in 2001. She has worked closely with a number of composers, especially in the field of electroacoustic music. She actively commissions new pieces for solo flute or chamber ensembles, and has been active in the commission, performance, and recording of more than 25 new pieces.

Bassingthwaighte maintains an interactive Web site of works for flute and electronics at www.subliminal.org/flute, and professional flute site at www.sarahbassingthwaighte.com. She has a DMA in flute performance and an MM in composition and theory from the University of Washington, an MM in theory and pedagogy from Central Washington University, and a BM in performance from Indiana University, Bloomington.

She has recorded on the Pandora, Centaur and CCMC labels, and has had articles published in Flute Talk, Flutewise, and Pan Magazines.
