Relaxed and rootsy - short, solo acoustic guitar/vocal album recorded live in an apartment in Austin, TX.

notes

SMALL TIME BIG TOWN is a collection of songs I recorded at my friend Chris Cogswell's apartment in Austin, TX. These songs were recorded without a lot of fuss - just me and my guitar, all in one or two takes. I enjoyed making this album after a long and music-less year in the "live music capital of the world!"

  • Beautiful!

This is really something, folks! Lisa Bastoni's record is the closest you can get to someone sitting right in front of you introducing a couple of new tunes, just singing and playing guitar - and they're all really beautiful! Get this CD and I promise you, you'll treasure it.

I first saw Lisa at the old Kendall Cafe in Boston. I qucikly became a big fan, and was disappointed when I moved to NY and wouldn't be able to see her perform on a regular basis (although I did get to see her perform in CT). So, I had been waiting dutifully for her followup work to "Your First Sweetheart" and wasn't disappointed. Lisa continues her perefct style of stripped down music and detailed rich lyrics. Her voice is the perfect companion to her guitar style, and "Small Time, Big Town" has become my anthem for living in New York, while missing the small town of Massachusetts from where I came. Buy this CD. You'll fall in love with it the first time you play it.

  • If that's apartment music I like it
    author: Richard Cooper

If this is what you get when you sit in a friend's apartment and just record some songs you just wrote, then more people should work that way. This is a lovely set of folk songs, sung in a charming, unaffected voice by someone with some thoughtful songs to sing. My only complaint is that it deserves a better package than the paper slip-case without sleeve notes. More! more! (sounds of applause and audience appreciation)

  • Pure Pleasure!

Listening to this CD you cant help but feel good all over! Her voice is that of an angel! Just simple, pure, pleasure!

In this age of technological advances in music and the obsession that some have adopted with overproduction simply because it's a conveniently viable option, we may tend to forget the lost art of bare bones songwriting. This young woman certainly has not, choosing to simply strap on an acoustic guitar in a friend's apartment and let the songs speak for themselves. The results are compelling, heartfelt modern folk ballads that are at times intensely personal, a slight glimpse into the life of a cautiously optimistic woman whose life is transitioning in every way while she acts as the narrator, documenting the events as they play out in front of her. There is strength here, even though the songs and even the vocals are at times slight and withdrawn. This is the beauty of this collection of songs, an unmistakable ability to convey an endless array of feeling within the confines of such a simple, effective medium.
