Battlestar America is a mix of hip-hop, trip-hop, country and soul music. This mixture bings together the influences of Outkast and Gram Parsons, Portishead and Kitty Wells, Morcheeba and Otis Redding, Missy Elliott and George Jones. The result is a new breed of American music that brings old-time and old-school together at last.
"Rocking two turntables and a fiddle, Battlestar America will get you bobbing your head until your neck turns red." - Vibe Magazine
"Adding hip-hop beats, raps and turntables to the plaintive wail of Hank Williams, This is a band as comfortable with Cypress Hill's 'How I Could Just Kill a Man' as with Dolly Parton's '9 to 5'" - New York Daily News
"Hip Hop Country. Take a second to digest that. Believe it or not, they make a pretty interesting and complementary couple. With everything from Bluegrass to twangy, banjo and fiddle-driven country to R&B tinged tracks, the underground, alternative hip hop beats bring an urban, sassy, forthright feeling to these unusual explorations. Not wavering from the country vocals and country influence, Battlestar's danceable mating with hip hop make these Country-born tracks feel joyously jacked up on pop culture" - CDBaby.com
"Whod've thunk that hip-hop borrowing its style from Hank Williams would come off so well? . . . the best damn CD you're likely to grab for a long while." - The Activist Magazine
"One of the most talked about sets was the first one, by Battlestar . . . melded both rap and beautiful melodies, backed by a full band, bringing something totally new and exciting to the evening." - New Haven Advocate
"Above Market Value is genuine . . . An album with a future of imitators. And while the country feels soulful and true, don't front on the hip-hop neither." - MagicPropagandaMill.com
"Very creative and innovative hip-hop" - Shawn Rhodes, WBAI 99.5 FM

Successful blend of humor, hip-hop, country music and rage

Above Market Value defies the odds by taking a thoroughly original approach to both country music and hip-hop. Although I was skeptical that it would work, Battlestar America won me over in a big way. The band's politics are razor sharp and satirical, but the songs also have enough sly sense of humor to get their message across without excessive preaching. By all means, check it out. This one's a keeper.

Its funky boot-scootin hip-hop
author: Bull
Its funky; its country, and it hops. I really dig it. Its smart, and groovy. The production is tight, and the music is smooth.
Its fun, and has a messege. I really dig the fusion; its cool, and fresh.
