Sheri Bauer-Mayorga, with husband, Lincoln Mayorga in twelve songs representing voices outside of the mainstream; small town America, peace prize deserving MOMS, Scottish Travellors, Guatemalan shoe shine boys, a child learning about peace on the planet, and an observor of 9/11 wondering the same ...
Sheri and Lincoln are joined by Pete Toigo on bass, Jeff Kraus on percussion, and Trevor Caldwell on Low D whistle. This is a beautifully transparent and audiophile quality recording with a glow. The town of Chatham, New York makes a guest appearance on one tune with its local marching bands, the 2002 Chatham Fair, the local espresso bar, and the mayor's barking beagle. It's all in there.
SHERI BAUER-MAYORGA is a vocalist, pianist, songwriter, and folk song scavenger. She began her career in NYC playing contemporary American piano repertoire and appeared in venues such as the The Kitchen and New Music America. An interest in American traditional music (via the work of composer Ruth Crawford Seeger) led to Sheri's running after traditional folk song and singing it. She has performed an eclectic mix of originals, jazz, and traditional song on Jay Ungar and Molly Mason's "Dancing On The Air," at Caffe Lena, the Chautauqua Institute, Steinway Hall-LA, PS/21, the Hudson Opera House, Music@Big Pink in Berlin, at various libraries, universities and house concerts. Her second 2007 recording, "American Snapshots: 200 Years of American Song" was recorded for TownHall Records. Sheri is director and founder of the Columbia County Children's Vocal Ensemble in Hudson, New York and believes that nothing is better than passing on the power of singing to the next generation.
