notes

The BAYOU BROTHERS latest CD, “Let It Snow Zydeco” is a happy, fast-paced collection of four traditional Christmas songs and six originals, all played in our own rockin' Zydeco style. We hope you will welcome these songs into your own holiday celebrations.

The BAYOU BROTHERS combine a unique musical blend of Zydeco, Cajun and Mardi Gras influences. They are one of the few bands in Southern California that excel with this purely American art form originating from the bayous and swamplands of Louisiana. The Bayou Brothers draw from influences of the old masters of Zydeco such as Boozoo Chavis, Clifton Chenier Sr., Buckwheat Zydeco and Rockin' Sydney just to name a few.

The BAYOU BROTHERS members started the band as a labor of love back in 1996 as a side project that turned into their main focus in the music scene. Now, in addition to performing classic Zydeco tunes, the band also writes and performs original Zydeco music. John Chambers started playing accordion at the age of eight. Now, 45 years later, he still loves to play Zydeco.”

The bass player of the group, Tim Cash has been on the road most of his life and has traveled throughout the south and New Orleans where he was influenced by the Zydeco and Cajun music of the region. He is the musicologist of the band and arranges and sings many of the authentic Zydeco and Cajun tunes along with John Chambers.

On drums and rubboard is a very unique father-daughter rhythm section; Ric Lee (the dad) is the drummer and one of the founding members of the BAYOU BROTHERS. Jessica Stull (the daughter) plays rubboard so naturally that the band brought her on board this past year and her spirited performances have been a wonderful addition!

Explains Ric, we were playing in El Cajon, at the Concerts on the Green, and Jessica was there with my grandchildren. We invited her to come up on the bandstand to play a song or two on the rubboard….and wow!! She was so good at it we decided to ask her to join the band right then.

On guitar is Johnny Vernazza, a great talent who just moved down from the San Francisco area. He has played many years with the great blues man Elvin Bishop and is currently just off the road from local favorite Norton Buffalo. We feel very fortunate to have such a great artist like him to play with us now.

Masters of the craft of Cajun and Zydeco music! They blended the musical heritage of SW Louisiana with the Christmas spirit and served up some of the best seasonal tunes you will ever hear. It brought me a little closer to home for Christmas!

This CD was the perfect solution to my midwinter doldrums. Everything is upbeat but not annoyingly so. My favorite track is Crawfish for Christmas -- totally unique and awesome! I recommend you buy it if you like either zydeco or Christmas music; you won't be disappointed!
