At long last. Bazerk, flagship member of the hip hop underground super group H.E.O.R.B. has finally dropped his feature length album "The Struggle-Based On A True Hip Hop Story". Those who have copped the 12" inch single from cdbaby already know the sheer power and talent of this gifted rap artist.
First off, Bazerk employs Compton based "Beat Wizard" Baba Zoom for this undertaking with CLASSIC results. Bazerk's rhyme style is so "throwback" if you will and so clever that it just sounds new and refreshing to the ear. The tracks that Baba Zoom provides just takes the listener to a place in hip hop where TRUE hip hop purists long to be. Track no.3 "I Got U In Tha Zone" is a strong, thunderous jam that showcases Bazerk's unique flow. Hard drums and hardcore guitar strings clash with an abrasive rhyme style to form one of my favorite jams on the cd. Other notable cuts are "Pursuin", "Moment iz $", the chick friendly cuts "Can't Let U Go", "We Can Get Down" and the Divine Forces Radio jam that is simply mesmerizing.
Bazerk also employs the talents of The 1st Lady Dutchess, 7th Sign cohorts ROE and Big Loc Thiese, new west standout Big To Tha Boy and soul music icon Cheryl "UnRuley" Cooley of Klymaxx fame. As an added bonus, "The Struggle" also includes a dvd with a live performance of L.E.T.H.A.L with Baba Zoom and Netwerq. A definite must have collectible.
"The Struggle-Based On A True Hip Hop Story" is a fine effort from a solid rap artist and a man who has paid more than his share of dues not only in the rap game but in the game of life. A survivor of gun violence, Bazerk has not let something that daunting deter him from fulfilling his destiny. A destiny that's certain to leave a long lasting impression on those who love this thing we call Hip Hop.
