ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Barry Big B Brenner's latest CD; "OLD SCHOOL BLUES" is Americana Roots Music at its finest. Recorded in May of 2009, it represents what you would likely hear TODAY at one of Big B's impressive LIVE shows.

There are several songs played on low strung acoustic 12-String Guitar ("You Don't Know My Mind", "Bye Bye Baby Blues" and the rousing "Step It Up and Go!") as well as some strutting National Resonator Bottleneck Slide Guitar numbers ("Denver Blues" and "I'm Worried"). Be sure to also check out the bawdy story line on the swampy "Silver Street Blues", an original and quite novel Blues tune about the infamous denizens of the Under-The-Hill crowd down in Natchez, Mississippi. The self-penned instrumentals "Cat Pause" and "Grand Canyon Mules" are just two of the delightful ear candy tracks to be savored.

All in all, Big B Brenner's latest digital platter is an enjoyable, eclectic mix of foot tapping, dance floor BLUES.

-------------------------------------------------------

"...His music oozes out of the weird American night. Fine, mellow and yet exciting and invigorating, like the most distinct of distilled spirits..."

Fellow musicians refer to him as; "Mr. Blues, Rags & Stomps!", that's because Barry Big B Brenner plays the Real Country Folk Blues which originated in the Mississippi Delta, Texas Plains, Piney Woods, Piedmont Seaboard, Louisiana Bayou and of course...Chicago's South Side. Barry has performed all over the USA; from Alaska to the back woods of the Arkansas Ozarks, out to the California Foothills and many points in-between.

He was Born and raised on the legendary South Side of Chicago and is a self-taught singer and acoustic guitar virtuoso. Big B has performed alongside such notables as renowned Blues Guitar Maestro Albert King and Eric Burdon of Animals fame.

Barry now continues the grand American tradition of solo country bluesman and folk music songster. He is a lifelong proponent of Finger-style Guitar picking, mastering the genres of COUNTRY BLUES, RAGTIME and DELTA BOTTLENECK SLIDE. Big B always features 4 different, totally unique sounding acoustic guitars in his live performance sets. You'll hear 6-String, 12-String & National Resonator Guitars, "the way they were always meant to be played."

A deep roots Blues Singer, Barry's penetrating vocals evoke the true feeling and meaning behind the expression "Down Home Blues" and revitalizes PRE-ELECTRIC BLUES as a truly original American musical gift to the world.

Finally an album of a wrongly neglected blues style. Old school blues!
This CD is a tribute to the 20's to 40's fingerstyle & slide guitar Country
Blues recorded with modern recording technology.

The first track "You don't know my mind" points the listener towards
the direction of this album. Fingerstyle-guitar at it's finest!

The second song “Denver Blues” is the highlight of this CD. A marvelous
Slide-guitar instrumental which goes directly under the skin. It's melody
will be branded into your mind for days/weeks.

“Bye Bye baby Blues” is a tune which brings you back to the origins of
the piedmont fingerstyle Blues.

“Spike Driver Blues” is a Rag which takes some loans from the classic tune
“John Henry”.

"Cat break” is a song which is stepping out from the line of theses songs,
because of the use of an electrified guitar. It is blending blues with some
jazz-moods.

The following “Mister ticket agent” puts the listener back to the stomping
earthy Blues ground.

“Step it Up and go” is again a Rag which you will enjoy you completley.
The following “Silver Street Blues” is like “Cat break”, a track with a small
band backuping the artist.

The “Grand Canyon Mules” is an excellent short instrumental slide
accompanied by small percussions.

The superb “Hard Pushin' dad” leads you to the final song of this cd.

“I'm Worried”, which is a worthy conclusion to this excellent album
with a delta blues slide.

Reviewer's choices:
Denver Blues!!!!! This song alone is reason enough to purchase this CD.
Spike Driver Blues

Now to the only problem to the european Listener: How to buy this album?
Until now it is only possible to buy this CD on www.cdbaby.com.
My hope is that a european distributor will add this excellent album to
their catalog of releases!
