notes

Our second CD, featuring SEVEN world premiere recordings and ELEVEN works by the BCM composers. Recorded by the University of North Texas Symphonic Band, the Tarleton Winds, the UMD Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the UNLV Wind Orchestra, the TAD Wind Symphony, Tokyo Symphonic Band, the OSU Wind Ensemble, and Ensemble X.

The BCM International composers are some of the most talented, versatile, unconventional, and accomplished composers of their generation. ERIC WHITACRE is one of the bright stars in contemporary concert music. Regularly commissioned and published, Whitacre has received numerous composition awards, as well as a Grammy nomination. His 28 published works have sold well over 100,000 copies worldwide. STEVEN BRYANT's catalog includes works for wind ensemble and orchestra, electronic and electro-acoustic creations, music for chamber ensembles, and music for the Web. His music has been commissioned, performed, and recorded by many of the very best ensembles from around the world. The American Academy of Arts and Letters honored composer JONATHAN NEWMAN for his concert, dance, and theater music, which have been performed and recorded worldwide. Winner of biannual Merrill Jones Composition Award and a recipient of the American Composer Orchestra's Whitaker New Music Readings, he has been described as "an outstanding composer...with a quirky and intellectually provocative bent." Composer JAMES BONNEY has created everything from avant-garde symphonic orchestral scores to traditional jazz big-band charts; as well as all styles of pop, rock, world-beat, and contemporary electronica. He has also scored numerous short films, documentaries, commercials, videos, and television programs. BCM International began at The Juilliard School, where 3 of the composers met while studying with Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-winning composer John Corigliano.

  • Amazing as expected!
    author: Justin

Anyone who loves orchestral music should really enjoy this CD. My favorite was "TranZendental Danse of Joi." I bought this CD and other BCM CDs because I'm a fan of Eric Whitacre, but James Bonney is easily becoming one of my favorite composers for symphonic winds!

  • Fabulous!!

Really great music and really well played. A wonderful album with a lot of depth. Equus is the stand out piece, followed closely by TranZendental Danse of Joi.

  • Wow!

My High School Marching Band played Equus...not as fast of course, but it's wonderful to hear the original piece. Equus has been my favorite concert band peice since the first time I heard it. It's great!

  • Great CD

Excellent Music. Our high school band will be playing several of these compositions next year.

  • This CD is more then what i was expecting

I am a big fan of Eric Whitacre. The college bnad that i am in has played some of his compositoins in the past years then man is awsome. I also enjoyed Steven, Jonathan and James. Never heard anything like this before in my years of playing in a wind band before....Sweet

  • Love it. This CD is fantastic!

This CD is too good! My son bought it for himself but I am considering ordering my own copy because I love it!

  • author: Ken Lee

this CD is the greatest. nothing more needs to be said.

  • I love this cd, it's undefined music at its best!
    author: Scott Ostrander

This cd was originally purchased because it has pieces by Eric Whitacre on it. I absolutely love his music but now also realize the great music of his friends from BCM. The cd has so much contrast to offer for concert bands and it's awesome that there are "different" composers out in this world. I have heard "Equus" before live but this recording was more full sounding. "TranZendental Danse of Joi" was so sweet and got me in a joyful mood. All in all this is a powerful recording but Eric Whitacre better watch out, because I am a composer and will soon have something to show to the world.

  • Men of Industry indeed.
    author: Matt Scott

This CD is probably the best, most diverse example of music for wind band that I've heard (granted, the only other wind band CD was also by BCM, but that's beside the point). Everything from flowing neoclassical (As the scent of spring rain...) to upbeat, percussive jazz (TranZendental Danse of Joi) to music that sounds like it's straight out of a film (Equus). Very enjoyable.

  • author: Tom Jones

BCM Men of Industry is an outstanding collection of wind and percussion literature by 5 very forward thinking young composers. As a public school music educator I find it refreshing to hear literature suitable for school age ensembles that doesn't sound like the typical formula music that is cranked out by most publishers. Well performed, well produced, a pleasure to listen to...Thank You! T.Jones

  • Very industrial as hot as molten metal poured into forms
