Winner of the second annual Godfrey Away for Excellence in Public Library Services for Families and Children, Mother Goose on the Loose (TM)is a nursery rhyme program for children from birth to age three with a parent or caregivers. Presented in public libraries as well as childcare settings, it incorporates proven principles of child development with a hands-on program providing practical implementation. Circle times can be enriched by using activities developed through this program; the adult education component can be used to teach family participants the benefits of repeating these rhymes with their children at home.
Dr. Betsy Diamant-Cohen is holds a B.A. from Brandeis University (Sociology) an MLS from Rutgers University, a DCD (Doctorate in Communications Design) from the University of Baltimore, and a Certificate of Distinction in Barbara Cass-Beggs' Your Baby Needs Music program. In 2004, she was named a "Mover and Shaker" by Library Journal. In the late 1980s, Dr. Diamant-Cohen incorporated the "Listen, Like, Learn" approach of Barbara Cass-Beggs with traditional storytime elements to create Mother Goose on the Loose(TM). This program has been running steadily ever since.

Mother Goose on the Loose is a well-constructed and easy-to-follow program. These CDs are an essential companion to the program, but are also extremely useful on their own. They contain a huge selection of songs, rhymes, fingerplays, etc along with explanations on usage, motions, and ways to make things fun! I would definitely recommend these CDs to anyone who works with young children and who would like to enhance their resources with fun literacy-based activities.

Fabulous for public librarians, day care providers, or parents.

The Mother Goose on the Loose CD is a wonderfully informative CD. Clear directions on how to run this nursery rhyme program make it easy to implement at a school, public library, day care setting, or at home. The second CD which includes extra songs for each section of the program is a great resource for when you run out of songs to sing! Ideas on how to introduce the program, how to present the developmental benefits to the audience, and how to transition from the different parts of the program are very helpful. I have been conducting the Mother Goose program at my library for 6 months and I STILL use the CD for support and guidance!
