perfect hip hop jazz improv blend
author: Eric Campbell
I definitely enjoy this CD. Most jazz hip hop CDs don't find a balance: either because they're jazz musicians who don't really understand hip hop or hip hop heads who don't really know jazz but you guys get a perfect balance. And some of those grooves that you hit are straight fire. No jazz CD ever made me wanna start spittin rhymes while listening to the track. Keep doing your thing.

Some of the most choice trip hop/hip hop to tickle CD Baby's collective ear in ages. You might even swear that you're not a hip hop fan but Beam just might win you over with their live, heavily jazz-influenced groove, touched with elements of R&B. "Live" albums tend to be distracting but if ever there was an exception, "Inception" is certainly it. This band won't bombard you with the same ol' material; like refined visual artists, they know how to use "positive" and "negative" space, how to fill and not fill the spaces of silence, crafting a style that is both sophisticated and defiantly experimental- a style that breathes with you. A pure head trip for the body.

I think this cd is definetly Hot, the opening track sets the tone for the rest of the joint. Shortie is spitting some clever lyrics over bangin tracks. I give you two thumbs up.
