notes

Hailing from Anchorage Alaska, Bearfoot is fast-rising on the acoustic music scene. The band features three part vocal harmony, solid rythm and soloing on the mandolin and guitar, twin fiddles, and acoustic bass. Their repertoire ranges from the band's origional contemporary acoustic songs to fast paced instrumentals to arrangements of traditional tunes evoking the high lonesome sounds of Bill Monroe. Bearfoot has a lively and engaging stage presence with an appeal that crosses generations - from younger audiences to older and traditional bluegrass fans.

Bearfoot has toured extensively in the US, Canada and Ireland playing concerts and festivals. In 2001, they won the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, joining such other notable winners as The Dixie Chicks and Nickel Creek, the later of whom they have been compared to for their fresh new sound.

  • Solid Bluegrass

Excellent music from a young group. Vocals and picking far beyond the age of this group. I believe this group will continue to have great success.

I was fortunate enough to see Bearfoot at Merlefest and instantly fell in love with their sound. Jerry Garcia said that “the music has to flow” and that is what Bearfoot does so well. A good song has an energy of its own and they just let the song manifest its self through them. Also I can’t get over how well the instruments blend with the vocals (all the vocals). Keep the CD’s coming!

Merlefest '08: An Alaskan bluegrass band? Huh??? Then they started to play... We were mesmerized, enthralled, enraptured. Our eyes got big! Our mouths fell open! We grinned so hard our teeth hurt! We absolutely fell in love with Bearfoot and their Celtic-like Bluegrass sound. 'Follow Me' is an excellent representation of their work, but for the full effect you MUST see them live, in person.

Wow! What an unexpected pleasure. Caught you live in Cleveland opening for the Saw Doctors. Blue Grass and Irish Rock and Roll are closer than one might think. I've got the album in my CD tray at my work computer. This stuff's better than coffee to get me going in the morning.

I bought this CD for my daughter who just acquired a taste for bluegrass after being introduced by her current beau....although I have requested several times to borrow, she has not yet been able to part with the CD. A proven fact that she must love it! I do look foward to sneaking it away one day soon! In addition... CD Baby rocks, I will definately use this service again! /ps

  • My new favorite CD
    author: Johanna Evans

I can't get this music out of my head or my body. I want to dance and sing to it all day, everyday. I had the pleasure of going to a concert of theirs (and dancing the whole time) and then meeting them afterwards. I admire and envy these young, down-to-earth but fiery musicians, and can't wait for them to come back to Juneau!

I heard these guys at the NW String Summit - they are so fresh, talented, and just at the core of music. This album captures how tight they are, great ensemble, amazing voices, fiddles, lyrics - really a joy to see, and now this CD brings back the best.

Bearfoot just keeps getting better and better and better and this CD proves it. My son in Colorado (he used to live in Alaska) gave me a Bearfoot CD for my birthday in 2005 and I was hooked. If you enjoy intelligent music with traditional instrumentation, buy this CD! And, buy one for a friend because you will want to share your discovery.

  • Bearfoot/Follow Me
    author: David Trask

WE had never heard of Bearfoot until we saw them at the Bighorn Mountains Bluegrass Festival in Buffalo, WY, last July. We heard them twice a day for two days and they seemed to get better each time. They are a fine example of the best trends in current bluegrass. We ordered two copies and gave one as a gift.

  • Renews your faith in the power of music and creativity!

This cd gets better every time I play it--which is a lot! The quality is very good; you can tell they worked to make it perfect. I like the mix and the fact that you can't pigeonhole this music into one static genre. In fact, I didn't even think I liked bluegrass, so don't call it that exactly. Maybe I just never heard it so good. Isn't it nice that it is still possible to be great because of dedication, inspiration and talent, not glitter and plastic surgery? Reminded me of how much I love music and its power. Heard them at Mountain Stage in Beckley, WV, and it was the first time in a long time that I have experienced an audience so spontaneously fall in love and give such a sincere and exciting standing ovation! This cd captures some of that beautiful energy. I bought three copies for me and friends, and I am going to buy some more to spread around. Share the good stuff.

  • The fiddle playing is phenomenal! Best I've heard in a long time!
    author: T Ramsaidh

I haven't stopped listening to this cd since I received it and I've shared with everyone! I would like to hear live and I hope they make it to New York this summer!

You will sing it when you first wake up, and be inspired when you hear their version of your mind's eye memory. They have a silky righteous feel...

  • Best CD I've heard in a long while
    author: Andy

Not only is this one of the best modern bluegrass CD's, it may be one of the best CD's of any genre released in 2006. Beautiful harmonies, excellent musicianship, and a truly gifted songwriter in Annalisa Tornfelt make this CD stand out. "Sweet Pea" is just beautiful and is perhaps the brightest gem on a disc with 12 other sparkling cuts. If it is available, buy it at once. Or buy three and give it to friends.

  • Great Bluegrass

This CD is great. It combines sultry bluegrass with fun and traditional.

Wonderful. Fantastic. Great. Had the honor of seeing Bearfoot at Tamarack in Beckley WV for the Mountain Stage Public Radio show. I'm hooked. I ordered an extra CD which made for a great Christmas present!

  • Better than Nickel Creek!
    author: Jenna

I can't believe that I found a group that I like better than Nickel Creek! The fresh, blues-y sound is wonderful. I listen to this CD over and over again cause I just can't get enough!

  • Soooooo Good!
    author: Rosanna

After seeing this group in Seldovia at the Summer Soltice Festival, I was hooked. Three generations of my family love Bearfoot. My mother plays this CD all day long at work, my 7 year old dances around to it while playing a mean air mandolin, and I put it on when I want to escape. We totally love this CD. Thanks guys!

  • This is my type of Blue Grass

  • excellent listening, mellow harmony, well blended instruments.
    author: Charlie Rodriguez

I gave this CD 5 stars because it deserves 6 stars. Both of their releases are fantastic and are musically superb. I'm searching where I can get the next CD. I'm proud to know they're from Alaska and consider "Bearfoot" a State treasure. All the luck to them/you.

  • Fun time listening to some Alaskan Bluegrass
    author: bearfoot follow me

I give four stars because I'm generous. The real reason I bought this CD was becasue I went to Bearfoot live in Juneau and enjoyed the lilty harmonies and traditional instruments they jam on. So it brings back good Alaskan thoughts. You can tell a difference between Annalisa's, and the others' songwriting style, which I think adds to the enjoyability of the album and negates some repitition. Thanks!

  • my favorite album in a long time
    author: cameron cook

I am not a good "reviewer" but I recommend this album to everyone. Thank you guys for making such an incredible album. We keep it in our van all the time, and by the time the trip comes to an end, whoever heard your songs is singing them. Everyone who hears the CD wants to know how and where to get one.

  • Bearfoot rocks!
    author: Pat McDowell

I've followed this group for years so anxiously await new CD's and this one's awesome! It's hardly been off the CD player since it arrived! I just hope the next one isn't so long in coming.

  • They keep getting better...
    author: B. Grasslover

A great CD from a band I've gotten to hear "grow up" over the last few years in Alaska. Their live shows are terrific. Annalisa's song-writing is top-notch--a Gillian Welch-like darkness combined with a traditional bluegrass feel. The only weak spot is Norris's "Easier Days," which is quite clunky in contrast to the rest of the strong compositions. (He rocks out on the mandolin though.) Favorite tunes are "Follow Me," "Molasses," and "The Most Lonely." It's in the CD player all the time!

  • Great great great CD!
    author: Marcus Taylor

Bearfoot are a delightful find and this CD continues to demonstrate why they are so busy touring and charming audiences around the globe. A range of tones, charm, sweetness, excellent playing and unique vocal harmonies - Bearfoot are a young band who captivate us with their very own bluegrass sound effortlessly. Watch out them for them performing live (like I did in Culver City or Strawberry) - great!

  • I really enjoy it over and over again!
    author: Marlee Cheek

I loved the CD. Great example of real bluegrass. My friends and family liked it too!
