Creeping up within a hip-hop movement that is becoming progressively conscious socially and spiritually, New York City’s The Beat Poet introduces a non-conforming lyrical style that bends free flowing rhymes around filthy funk and futuristic beats. Sometimes self-deprecating, often party popping and always contextually aware, this dj poet sorcerer king connects through wisdom and wit without overloading on sermon or superficiality.

Whether fronting a full band, going one-on-one with a cut master DeeJay or standing solo on an underground acapella stage, The Beat Poet creates live shows with an outward and inward style built from his interpretations of limitless influences referenced from multiple forms and time periods. He’s been described in a single breath as Biafra, Beastie, Buckley, Bruce and Basquiat, but, as the Brooklyn based polyartist explores on his debut album iam, where he truly excels is breaking boundaries that have yet to be defined but must be seen.

The debut release, iam, floods light into the dim rooms of downtown New York revealing the boisterous irreverence that fuels that ever shifting, always shaping creative cauldron. Produced along side fellow freaky funk futurist DJ Wool (The Glass, Plant Music) and featuring Jeni Fujita (Wyclef Jean, Pink), Akir (Viper, The Source “Unsigned Hype”) and rising star Goldenchild, the ten song introduction touches past experiences palpably grounded without excusing moments of inhibition free cosmic exploration.
