notes

becky was originally formed by Rob Mailhouse and Rebecca Lord in Silver Lake, California.

Early on, Rob asked former Dogstar mate, Keanu Reeves, to join the rhythm section. Along with Paulie Kosta on guitar, becky was born.

''Take It On The Chin'' contains four recordings from the Tim Palmer (U2, Pearl Jam) sessions with Keanu and Paulie, as well as Goldfinger's Kelly Lemieux on a hidden track. The rest of the rockin record was produced by Steve Refling, with the new band recording eleven more tracks.
Rebecca's vocals have been compared to Mazzy Star but the music accompanying gives the band a much harder edge. Joined by new bassist Billy Close, the band has successfully blended a lot of different musical influences, giving the band a very unique sound. The recent addition of the extremely melodic David Dyas on guitar diversifies the sound even more.

becky has evolved into a mature power pop force with a strong internet following and have established themselves as a popular club band in Los Angeles with long residences at the Roxy, Viper Room and Spaceland.

Releasing their debut record in June, becky has found their niche with their undeniable pop songs.

  • JoJo's Circus

This may sound stupid, but I found this album by looking up the singer from the jojo's Circus song. I really liked Rebecca's voice on that track and I like the album!

  • Fabulous stuff

I remember finding Becky nearly two years ago, to my excitement as they had the same name as me, when Keanu Reeves was still the bass player. When I first went on their website and heard Evangeline I knew that they were something definitely worth hanging on to. I've been waiting for this CD ever since, and now that I've got it it was worth every second of the wait. It's soft songs are powerful without being depressing and the rock songs are simply.... rocking! I love it and can't wait to hear any more stuff.

  • What a find!
    author: CM Wintersteiger

I rarely buy CDs of bands that I don't know. However, in the case of Becky that was absolutely not a mistake. The music rocks, without being too edgy; the lyrics are clear (and clearly understandable!), yet leave enough room for interpretation (who does actually adore whom on 'I adore you'?) and things that are just peculiar (who is Joe on 'Joe'?). Rebecca's performance is very pleasing, Bill's bass really walks ahead, while not being too intrusive and Rob's drums just accompany everything else very nicely. The only thing I could criticize is David's guitar playing - while certainly not bad, he could sometimes show more presence, although that probably is a mixing issue. Keep on rocking guys, I can't wait for your next CD, or your first gig in Switzerland!

The songs on this cd are wonderful to listen to, not too hard rocking but also not smooth. For me they are the right mixture. And they will be fantastic for a good party in the summer. Great!!!!!!!

I love this CD. I got it last week and I haven't taken it out of my car stereo since. It takes me an hour to get to and from work each day so I've had a chance to listen to it quite a bit. The songs are hot and I absolutely love Rebecca's voice.

I like "Take it on the Chin" by Becky. The first song starts out, I like the way you make me move, child..and by the end of the song you will want to start doing some groovin yourself. It's upbeat, and makes for some good listening!
