notes
Bellissimonde presents beautiful world music and complex rhythms. It's music to dance to: belly dance, folk dance, fire dance, rituals.... There's something for everyone.
The Bellissimonde CD includes pieces from Algeria, Armenia, Persia, Turkey, Spain, and even Ireland and French Canada.
* Monty "The Drummer" Cowles plays a whole lotta percussion. Ancient hand drums –- doumbec, tar, riqq and bendir -- complement the drum kit.
* Sylvia Hackathorn wails on electric guitar, bouzouki, and mandolin, varied with special effects pedals, and embellished by haunting airs on the Indian flute.
* Patricia Scott adds castanets, Turkish spoons, zils and qaraqsh from North Africa.
Portland vocalist Nancy Curtin, a great singer of Brazilian jazz, said of a Bellissimonde show:
"That was so great!! Loved the tunes.... What great variety.
Truly a wonderful compilation of world music."
Now take the performance home with you.
Y'want passion, mystery, exotic rhythms?
Y'want whimsy, majesty, mischief?
You want Bellissimonde:
The electric best of all possible worlds!

Wowzers!
author: Kari JensenGreat recording of great musicians! It sounds like they are in your living room, and a Must for not only tribal dancers, but anyone who enjoys eastern or quasi-historic sounds. I would highly recommend this cd to belly dancers of all sorts, SCA people, alternative people of all types and shapes and even to my dog (who does have a sense of rhythm by the way). I mean, a fuzzbox version of 'Saltarello'? I esk ya, how fab is that? It's not all belly dance material, but it Is all terrific.
