“Handbell Pops” – that’s how Music Director, Michael Lamb, describes Bells In Motion.
George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Glen Miller are composers not usually associated with handbell choirs, but then again, Bells In Motion is not your every day, run-of-the-mill church or community handbell choir.
Bells In Motion is a progressive handbell ensemble based in Springfield, Illinois. Formed in 1997, the 15 members of the group join by audition and hail from Central Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Since their first performance, Bells In Motion has continually brought audiences to their feet. The ensemble combines seven octaves of handbells and chimes, string bass, drums and other musical instruments to perform music ranging from jazz to classical, big band to blues, and sacred to original compositions written especially for this thrilling group of performers and their instrument.
Bells In Motion electrifies the stage and includes the spirited sounds of jazz for which they are known in favorites like ‘Misty’, ‘Georgia On My Mind’, and their signature piece, ‘In the Mood’.
Prepare yourself for a splash of energized sound waves – Bells In Motion is not to be missed!
