"New War" features the amazing vocal talent of the 2005 Starbucks Emerging Artist Award Winner, Mieka Pauley. Her voice, coupled with the Hip-Hop style of Below Tha Surface, deliver a heart-felt song on the affects of war. The song illustrates the dynamics of a war between nations versus the personal battles of being in the war and the affects it has on the human spirit.
"New War" is a slight departure from Below Tha Surface's usual upbeat subject matter; however it reflects the growth and depth of the group. Mainstream Hip-Hop artists haven't done their part in addressing the war in Iraq, so BTS felt it was important that this issue was touched on. This is the perfect anticdote for commercial Hip-Hop.
