With the title track of his debut release, Lincoln's Man, reaching number three on the Folk-DJ charts, Ben Bedford proves that one need not experience something firsthand to write about it. From life as a Confederate soldier's wife to present issues such as homelessness, Bedford takes the listener on a journey across the landscape of American humanity. Poignant, but rarely sentimental, his songs are portraits which capture the life and vitality of his characters while illuminating themes of joy, struggle, death and betrayal.
After only three and a half years as a full time musician, Bedford has already gained praise from acclaimed singer songwriter Diana Jones, played Izzy Young's famed Folklore Centrum in Stockholm, Sweden, and seen his debut studio album reach the top ten on the Folk-DJ charts. Calling himself an "American Portrait Songwriter" after his photographic style of writing, he is currently working on his second release, due out in January of 2009. Like Lincoln's Man, it will be released on Hopeful Sky Records

Brilliant as Sunlight
author: Craig
Following three years after the release of his widely acclaimed "Lincoln's Man", "Land of the Shadows" takes Ben's writing and story telling to even greater heights. This is a brilliant CD from start to finish with absolutely no mediocre songs to fill it out. Ben is a master of taking stories and turning them into compelling music while making them uniquely his own. Take the example of the title track - a song based on the Emmitt Till story made famous by Bob Dylan decades before. While Dylan's song is made powerful by the outrage of the incident, Ben's is all the more effective because of the humanity he provides the victim. I dare any listener to not be moved all the more powerfully. I have played this CD countless times over the past two years and I find something new in it each time. Purchase this CD and find out for yourself why many consider this artist to be among the very best of the new class of singer/songwriters.
