notes

Singer, songwriter Ben Bledsoe has spent his life performing. He began with stage acting at age 12, and quickly progressed to print modeling, national commercials, and network and cable television shows. At the same time his acting career began, he also started to pursue music, first by singing and then by learning to play the bass.

At age 16, Ben joined the Band Natural, and spent the next six years recording, touring, and performing all around the world. The band received two Gold records for singles in the U.S., and won awards throughout Europe and Asia. Ben was instrumental in both writing and producing songs for the band’s two albums (both Top-10 in Germany, Asia and Japan), as well as being a lead vocalist.

Now pursuing a solo career, Ben has spent the last several months playing guitar and piano, and writing new music for his own use, as well as writing and producing songs for other artists. He has collaborated on songs with such notable writers/producers as Tony Scalzo and Miles Zuniga (from the band Fastball), Richie Supa (Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Pink), Douglas Carr (Ace of Base, Britney Spears, Nick Carter), and Anders Wikstrom & Fredrik Thomander of Epicentre (*NSYNC, Nikki Cleary, Luis Fonsi).

“I have a sound in my head that I’m really excited to bring out in my music,” says Ben. “All the writing I’ve been doing has really helped me to hear my own voice.” Ben worked with producer Billy Chapin when recording his solo debut album, An Insomniac’s Guide to a Lonely Heart, released July 19, 2005. With a range of songs such as the up-tempo Gotta Get Away, and raucous (I Love Everything About You But Your) Boyfriend, as well as the beautiful My Way, and the haunting Drownin’, Ben’s unique, strong voice and contemporary style offer something for everyone. He wrote or co-wrote all of the tracks on the album, and played a number of the musical instruments as well.

In recent months Ben has been performing shows around the country for events such as “Relief. A Benefit for Tsunami Victims”, the Seventeen Magazine/JCPenny “Rock Your Prom” Tour, a number of festival dates, Grad Nite at SeaWorld, House of Blues, several concerts and events, and the Virgin Megastore Hurricane Relief Show. He looks forward to getting out on the road with his new material and performing for the fans, both old and new alike.

First thought of an old boyband-member going solo was "Oh not again all these heartbreaker-ballads"... in addition that Ben did all of the songs on his own, I really expected nothing extraordinary. But I was surprised to see or actually hear, that he has grown up in his own way. The songs are memorable and show a large spectrum of his talent. Though most of the songs talk about love, it doesn't sound monotonous. There are differnt styles of music added on one album... from really up-tempo-songs over acoustics to real ballads, I think it's a great mixture for all tastes. Can't wait to get the next one!

Insomniac's Guide to a lonely heart is one of the best CDs to come from an American artist in YEARS! Overall its what I want to call 'Southern Funk Pop/Rock'. The sound is an overall alternative rock with a slight funk; some would say pop but I really dont think thats the term. Some of the greatest tracks include 'Lonely Heart' a song that inspired it all, 'Without you' a sweet song to someone you have yet to love, 'Real Love' one of the funkiest and greatest tracks overall (check out the C part!), and of course the infamous I love everything about you but your 'Boyfriend'. There really isnt any bad tracks on Insomniac's Guide to a Lonely Heart whatsoever. Real Love, Without you, Lonely Heart, 'Gotta get away', and Boyfriend are all very mainstream and bordering pop. While 'Just the thought of you', 'Down', and 'Nobody's stoppin me' are all reminscent of Southern Rock and 70s funk. And for you music snobs theres the finest written and thought out tracks 'What you deserve', 'My way' (gorgeous piano), 'Drownin', and 'I can't stop you now'. Most have touching stories behind them and are beautifully played and performed. Overall An Insomniac's to a lonely heart is one the 05s greatest CD releases and sure to be 06's with more mainstream recognition! You want your great indie artist? You're at the right place.
