Album Notes

ENHANCED CD!

Recorded live at the famed Sunside club in Paris, BUMPIN AT THE SUNSIDE captures the Ben Sidran Quartet in full flight.  Including the surprise radio hit "Listen to That Fool Talk" -- a spontaneous jazz rap on history, culture, groove and politics -- this CD shows just why the Quartet is a regular feature on the jazz calendars of the best jazz clubs in Europe.  Now you can hear what afficianados in Paris, Madrid, London, Barcelona and Berlin have known for years: "the groove is gonna get you through times of no money better than money is gonna get you through times of no groove."

Like many others here, I got turned on to this disc via hearing the track, "Listen To That Fool Talk," played on radio; in my case, on WPFW in Washington, DC. The entire disc is brilliant - extremely talented & proficient musicians doing what they obviously love. It is tight and modern, with echoes of tradition. Also check out "Nick's Bump," the predecessor disc. And they're both enhanced with cool video. Now if CD Baby could just get a distribution deal for Sidran's new disc, "Live a Pis" (which I have been unable to find anywhere), I would buy the trio all over again. These discs would make great gifts for your hip friends. Get them while you can!
