Album Notes

Hailed as "two songwriting gurus with a harmony more powerful than moonshine," the powerhouse award-winning duo of Berkley Hart blend their distinctive voices and solid musicianship to create sounds founded in American roots rock with folk longevity.

Berkley Hart have established themselves as one of the premier acoustic duos in the country. Widely known for their intricate songwriting, world-class playing and memorable live performances, these two are the guys you've always wanted to know, to tell your own stories to, and share the ups and downs of life with. It's easy to lose yourself in the smooth melodies and poignant words in one instance, and then just as easily chuckle along as they tell an amusing story. The musical chemistry between Jeff Berkley and Calman Hart has been cultivated over their individual and shared histories. Berkley is a Kerrville New Folk Songwriter award winner and founding member of the Joel Rafael Band, while Hart released several records as a solo artist. They met on the coffeehouse circuit in San Diego and soon found themselves collaborating and performing together.

Expertly combining the playful with the poignant, the duo's third album, Twelve, released in March, 2004, represents the range that Berkley Hart are known for. The duo return to the more organic, acoustic sounds of "Wreck 'n' Sow" but keep the rougher edges that gave "Something to Fall Back On" its unique quality. Self-produced and recorded entirely in a home studio, the record, like its title, reflects a cycle that brought them back to their pure skills, with songs and sounds that truly represent their style. Players on the album include return appearances by Nucci, Ben Moore and Clark Stacer, but joining the crowd are top-notch musicians such as Doug Pettibone, AJ Croce, Dennis Caplinger, Duncan Moore, James East, David J. Carpenter and Eddie Cunningham.

A perfect blend of Jeff and Calman's talents. Rarely does a duo so fully compliment the two sides of their talents the way that Jeff Berkley and Calman Hart's do. Never miss the opportunity to see this duo live. "Twelve" is one of the clever offerings from this talented duo that really catches your ears and you mind. This is a great CD

Strong acoustical guitar, lyrical, compelling and instantly memorable.

The title song "Twelve" attaches itself to your memory cells in an instant and you find yourself mentally waltzing to it all day. Part of the appeal is trying to follow the elipses of words that form the numbers of the countdown. Should become the new anthem of AA meetings everywhere.
