Up umpteen notches from an already primo-level of artistry on "In The Land Of Giants Air Is Flesh," Bernard Bernard's latest love letter to the freakazoid brotherhood, "Laws I Love, Vol. I," is another psychic-spiritual carpet ride through the magic that presides before and after science, but this newest emanation from B2 sprawls across a vaster canvas than its predecessor, its strokes gentler yet more emboldened, its shadows and light more subtly accomplished, its composition truer to perspective. The album opens with a welcoming bee fart that flattens into "Marine Snow," a kind of wisdom scripture addressed to everyone, an introduction to Bernard Bernard's re-ordered universe, a cosmos whose only intention is love. "Who Is In The Room With Us" is an echoing meditation on the peaceful coexistence of Oneness and Individuality. B2's got your Atman right here, my brothers and sisters. "Balm" is dance music for people who don't like to dance. "Balm" is all about avoiding the dance. "Balm" is all about the bliss of comfort, "toast when you need it," anything that saves you from the agony of having to dance. With the tripped-out "Gorillas On A Mushroom Trip," Bernard Bernard takes a more elastic journey into evanescence; the jungle come-down always arrives too quickly, like not getting your money's worth. The artistic summit of "Laws I Love" is reached in the elegiac epic "The Crying Path," the album's impressive centerpiece. Moving in its acceptance of life's lonely struggles, "Crying Path" is a saga of onwardness, desert pilgrimage. The long musical interlude has the primal insistence of people trying to conjure the King of the Universe. We are human beings. This is what we do. "Logic Ruins The World" is a deliciously bratty tantrum, a manchild in the broken-promised land. Then B2 goes all colloquial on our asses and submits "Sunday Dylan." Imagine if a Jewish guy showed up in Hooterville on some freaky episode of "Green Acres." That would be a fitting description of "Sunday Dylan." He's like totally trying to wig-out the straights, man. A magnificent angel dance follows, "Instrumental Illness," spinning through the disco of your dreams. Volume I of this To Be Continued story concludes with a blessing from the prophet, the space-age Euro-Dub tune "8." A bridge to broader realms in Volume II. In addition to deploying his own arsenal of interesting ideas, Bernard Bernard also launches a couple of secret weapons into the atmosphere: Adeline Park (who appears throughout as the B2 anima, a major contributor to the charm of this album) and Michael Dunn (whose backing vocals are doused with the Spirit, baby). Casey Butler provides many arresting moments as well. There are some other meaningful things to say about the music on this album, but I can't remember what they are now. It'll probably come to me at like three o'clock in the morning. Dude. I hate when that happens.

I have been listening to the music of Bernard Bernard for over 20 years. His newest release, Laws I Love, Vol. 1, is the Masterpiece he has been trying to record for the last 25 years. This is not to say that his prolific output of musical product prior to now has been anything less than amazng and beautiful, it is to state with truth that this is the album he was meant to produce. It is filled with personal and yet universal stories and feelings. Bernards ability to peal away the layers of our collective ego through the art of sound has come, in Laws I Love, Vol.1, to perfection. Buy this CD. Listen to it. If you don't like it or don't get it... listen again but try listening without your mind. Bernards music must be ingested like a strange exotic food. Do not be afraid. What can not kill you can only make you stronger. Be strong.

Dark and light make love all over this fine collection of organic/synthetic forays. Pop hooks intertwine within a colonic headspace. Bernard Bernard's sharp guttural poetry is tamed by a lithe female's voice; Adam and Eve in the 21st century. The more you listen to Laws I Love, Vol. 1, the more opportunities you will have to change your life.

There are really no words that I can give this album that will accurately catapult it to the place that it already exists in my soul. The blending of voices of sexy, dark, deep, funky, deep Bernard Bernard and his quirky, effective, stellar female vocal partner Adeline Park is the stuff that dreams are made of… of course, I always love the work of fellow musicians Jonas Mannon, Michael Dunn & Casey Butler… they add the layers in between the layers in between. The album takes you on an interconnected journey that allows you to leave your surroundings and takes you to a place on your very own road that you just didn’t know existed.
