"a man who looks like Townes(Van zandt) and writes equally good songs, Pete Bernhard of the Devil Makes Three. "
SF Weekly Feb 1, 2006
Things I Left Behind is Bernhard's first proper solo release, but its assurance and timelessness betray a musician who has spent years honing his songwriting and performance chops."
- Ashland Daily Tidings Sept.2006
"A unique style of folk and blues fused together."
- SFGate.com
"Pete Bernhard's cigarette-smoked vocals and honky-tonk finger picking is music I would listen to as I walked into the glinting sunset, moments after I killed a man, six-shooter smoking, and the cold hand of remorse creeping into my dusty heart."
- Portland Mercury

While this album may feel a little short the densely packed sensational lyrics and rhythms more than make up for it. I'll give it five anyway!

So, yeah. This cd is fucking amazing. I felt like an asshole for not having it since it came out. I guess that there's always been this idealized country music in my head that I can't play...something far purer than pop music where everyone does what's cool. With this cd, the music actually means something. It's not mixed down and processed. It's raw, like a salad. Anyone that doesn't understand just how great this cd is, they are dumber than retards sniffing glue. The tempo change near the end of Fix It Up is like getting stoned for the first time. The most honest thing I've ever heard.

I just hear this song with the IPTV series, CARRIER. It is about the crew of the Nimitz Carrier, the people, their responsibilities and their hardships. The series started tonight. I instantly liked the song. Sorry, I have not heard your name before but definitely want to get your CD.

I have listened to this CD many times on the road as I travel back and forth for work, and it keeps getting better. The lyrics are clever and the music is seemingly uncomplicated and this allows for a very balanced combination.
